Any time I come across a cool ibanez model I havent seen before, I like to save pics. Would love to see others; but in the spirit of this particular thing, Im personally going for full production models; not 1 off LACS or spot models.
anyway, if anyone has an RG462 and can share pics, I'd appreciate it
What about the Ballback? It's a sick tele style body with 2 humbuckers and an edge tremolo. I don't know much, but I don't think they are in any US catalogs as they were only released in Japan, and not for long.
Penchant for the rare and weird, eh? Yeah, it's fun coming across models you didn't think existed.
There was someone here years ago who had a nice collection of all those Radius models.
When I first saw a 665, I thought it was some weird Maxxas/Vinnie Moore mash-up. There's even a HS config one, though not appearing in any catalogue. I'd guess the mini toggle is a blower which makes the bridge pu go straight to the jack.
Don't forget about the Dyuke. A Japan only range in 1987, basically a Roadstar 500/600 with different woods and pu configurations. They seem a bit more premium, given the ebony fingerboards and binding.
Damn! those Radius models are kick ass. I never knew they have configurations like that. It would be really cool to own a 542R and making it essentially a strat. One sold on reverb for $425, Imagine buying that for that price. That's cheaper than my Epi Les Paul! lol
I'm probably the guy Ashurbanipal is referring to with the Radius models. I have a pretty complete collection of the 542R, 442R, and 540R models and colors. I started picking them up when I figured out that Rich had a stranglehold on the graphic JS models, so I'd aim a little sideways from his interests.
Here are a few pics, but certainly not the full herd. The 2nd one is a 542R that I planted a maple board neck on, just for fun (but I have the original neck, and will put it back on at some point). Last is an oddball color for a 540R -- can't remember what it's called, but it may be my fav of the 540s.

I do like a Radius.. (Or in my case a JS as I've yet to get my hands on an original Radius model).
That orange maple fretboard HSS looks great! I'd love to find one of those.
A good maple fretboard model is one of the things my Ibanez collection lacks..
^^ 24.75 is pretty rare unless it's an Artist or a (semi)hollow. Though they did put an Edge on the Artist and semi-hollow AM75 in 1986, but 22 frets only. Ibanez fully embraced the 80s by putting a Floyd on almost everything.
I guess functionally the main stuff was there largely from the beginning, like neck shape, rear routed trem, HSH, jack placement, and the aanj in 1993, so most things Steve probably feels like changing up would be aesthetics and pickups. Like the Pia, he himself doubtless has softer edges these days , hence the guitar. Closest it got to the 'old days' were the PaW UVs.
Id imagine we all know what an RG550, RG570, RG770 are... well, apart from the obvious "RGR" models, which ones of these are "RG550" and "RG570"? Due note, this is extremely pedantic, and a lot of these are likely just regional names. But more for awareness than anything anyway. I did my best to get the proper angles and size them accordingly, but I work with what I have lol. On that, I dont have photoshop so any resizing can cause pixelation or distortion of body shape, so if one looks "off", just ignore it.
Round 2 is fun NOTE : I had to "doctor" one of these up because it had a really small but stupidly obvious "give away". You'll see what I mean in the "answers" image... part of it? youre never gonna find one haha (IF you do, message me? )
This has been on reverb for a while now if anyone is looking for it. It's one of those 540r's with the single coil sized neck pickup and no middle pickup like Bob had posted earlier. Personally I'm not a fan of the color...
Nope; that things been repainted. An 87 540R is also going to have 3 toggle switches not a blade. Im real dubious about that body as it is... Add in they'd have to do some destructive fitment to get an edge pro and theres just a whole lot of "nope" going on. Hell, even the tuners arent right. You might be getting a 540s neck for all we know here. One thats scalloped to boot... "Avoid" comes to mind lol.
Ah... I figured it out lol... Someone made a "tribute" guitar.... explains everything lol. The "real" one is more "gold" than yellow, quite lovely actually. Edit: they even emulated damage by the bridge, but you can see that its clearly not the same lol
Oh yeah, the funny thing? I wasnt even "looking". This guy showed up in my youtube recommended feed! lol
wound up coming across this really strange guitar... had some weird holes in it, and some guy wrote all over it... for some reason he thinks its the "#1" guitar or something... can you believe the nerve of this dude?
On a tangent... everything ibanez does is stupid and i hate them for it. RE USING PAINT CODES... SERIOUSLY?
"Lazer Blue" is a LIE, swirls happend WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY before Steve was in the picture, and theres a good 20 different colors between fountain blue and jewel blue we confuse (either on purpose or ignorance).
That Iceman has a triple coil pu. When it was first introduced, it was just called an Artist, with its own model number (2663); the 'Iceman' moniker was coined by Jeff Hasselberger, one of the Hoshino USA designers and marketing guys at the time. There was another version of this guitar where the front was routed out so the pu (same type) could be slid up and down for different tones. The triple pu itself is a Super 70 with an extra coil. The idea was to be able to get various split, series and parallel options from a single pu guitar.
Lol hate to burst your bubble, but thats definitely not "wood grain". For starters, you can see the grain UNDER the paint, so that helps. Also, done well before 1984.
