J Customs

Hey guys,
After begging parents, they say i may be able to get a j custom for my 16th *faints*.
Ive been looking at the 8270 (?) 2005 model, vine inlay etc, and wondering if there are any faults with them you guys can inform me on?
Also, can guys who own, or guys who have played, j customs please comment on the factory setup, bridge, neck, durability and anything else.
Can they also please post pictures of their j-customs?

thank you very much guys!

Re: J Customs

Great news. There are pics of my RG8670DR under the thread I posted a few days ago. I can't comment on factory setup as I got it used, but it is by far the nicest guitar I have ever played. The neck just feels amazing. The bridge is an Edge Pro, which is on pretty much all of the higher end Ibanez guitars these days... if you're buying new I'd recommend going through Rich at Ibanez Rules as he puts locking studs in the trem as part of his setup process.

Sounds like the 8670 you're talking about. I thought the 8270 didn't have a vine...but i don't think that the 8670 was produced in 2005, so i'm thoroughly confused now.

In any event, the JC 8670TB that i have is an amazing guitar. I've said here many times that it rates a 10+ in all all three categories that i personally rate guitars on, which is playability, tone and looks. It far outrates the Jems in terms of overall quality, IMO.

Fortunately or unfortunately, i recently got a Parker Fly Classic and my Ibanez's haven't been getting too much playtime.

Here's my best 4

The RG8270 replaced the RG8670 for 2005... the 8270 has the vine on a rosewood fretboard with no binding.

As for an 8270 review I'm afraid I can't comment as I have an 8670... but the 8670 is a dream... gorgeous looking guitar with great tone and playability (I think the neck may be the nicest I've ever played).

I have a bit of a chip in mine from when i ran into another guitar player with it (i cried and cried) and there are two cracks in the clear by the neck joint - i *think* they happened after a dopey trumpet player knocked it off the stand onto its face. No i didn't kill him, but i did curse a lot.

If you want to buy new and want the guitar Kenny has, you're out of luck as it's an RG8670 and they stopped making them in 2004. The RG8270 is still in production, but the neck and headstock are different, specifically the headstock has a dark rosewood overlay that does not match the body and the neck has the changes I noted previously. Rich has some decent shots of the 8270 necks on his site.

The body is bound, the neck is not on the RG8270.

Ibanez page for the 8270 http://www.ibanez.co.jp/japan/produc...G8270F_TB.html

Rich's 8270 page with great pics of a BX and VV: http:/www.ibanezrules.com/new/rg8270.htm
