Re: Jackson Dk2 vs Ibanez rg1570 vs jackson dk2s
My vote would be for the 1570 as well because on paper it beats the jackson. The edge pro is better than these new jackson JT580lp (the old jt590's and jt580 were very nice) and the necks are worlds apart. If you like thin and flat necks, you'll be happier with the wizard. The jackson neck, is very charvelesque. It's a fat feel with a nice flat back profile. It's not that much thicker, but you feel more meat in your hand when you grasp the neck.
Now I have experience with both the prestige Ibanez's and Jackson MIJ's . I want to recommend the 1570, Even though I've owned a lot of Jackson imports ( 3 DK2's, 1 DK2M , 1 KE-3, 1 90's soloist pro), I like the craftmanship of the prestige Ibanez better. That said, I've owned a 1570 and i never jived with it. It was an impulse buy because i always thought it would live up to my older MIJ 550's and 570's, but it didnt. The first reason, the pick-ups sounded stale and incapable of producing the amount of dynamics and personality my older 87-89's did. Bizarre, considering they are supposed to be the same pick-ups, but age can affect pick ups too. The other thing is, they just look ugly. Dot inlays, uninteresting finish options.
The thing about the DKs... well they are just a ton of fun to play. You can feel that it's not exactly a sophisticated instrument, but that raw feel is what makes it fun to play. The pick ups are miles ahead of the v series ibanez pick ups. Not to mention, they just sound great in those alder body Jacksons. Finally, the finish options are what's fun. You can get them in virtually anything from solid colors, to metallics, trans with flame veneers and a whole bunch of graphics. I've had one alpine white, two skull n' bones graphic , 1 trans green flamed maple and 1 trans red flamed maple. They looked great, and i had so much fun playing them.
So at the end of the day, if you like playing fast, want a guitar that suits you in style and want to pay a fair price for it, go with the Jackson.
However, On paper and in anyone's book, the Ibanez Rg1570 is a better guitar. Maybe you will have a better experience with it than I did. All my other prestiges were a lot of fun. (Jem's, S2020x,Rg2550)
