Jackson Fusion XL trem problem

I recently acquired a Jackson fusion XL in a transparent blueburst finish. I had played the guitar a bunch of times in the past and kinda lusted for that guitar ever since. Now it's mine! There is a problem though. The guy i bought it from had upgraded the trem to a Schaller and it was a major upgrade from the JT-590. Then he bought another guitar with a crappy floyd copy and put the schaller in that guitar. So basically, the guitar I bought is missing the trem. The guitar is routed for a recessed trem. I have a an Original Floyd Rose that fits perfectly except for the legnth of the string lock screws. They are too long and if I try to pull up on the whammy bar the string lock screws will hit on the body. I don't want to have to route the trem cavity longer to compensate and I can't afford a Schaller. So what can I do? Would Schaller string lock screws work instead since they are shorter or am I screwed?

Re: Jackson Fusion XL trem problem

What year was this Fusion? The first couple years of the Jackson Professional series came with Schallers, 1992 and 1993. The JT-590 is a Schaller. The JT-580 is a TRS, which starting coming on the imports in 1994.

If it was originally routed for a Schaller, then a Schaller should fit right in. The Schaller saddle screws are too thick to fit into an OFR.

I would put a Schaller trem on it. Either sell off your OFR or trade it to fund this. You can also find Schallers on **** in the $50-$75 range. Beware, though, that the older Schaller baseplates often strip out at the intonation screws. Schaller rectified this a few years ago, and they will sell you a new baseplate for $20 I believe.

Re: Jackson Fusion XL trem problem

You have some more -- one, buy a cheapy Schaller knock-off from Axcessories.com (much like the original Jackson trem) -- http://www.axcessories.com/proddetai...=axfrtx100chms
two -- search one out on Auction sites - wither the Schaller, Floyd Rose II or a Jackson/cheapy
three -- get it routed. The Schaller string lock screws are too thick to fit the Floyd Rose -- the barrel portion wont fit through the slots in the baseplate.

Re: Jackson Fusion XL trem problem

Yep schallers are short, and obviously the best thing to do is put one in.

However if it is only the screws that are fouling they surely you could just cut them down. I would by some spares and take them to you local blacksmith, or engineering workshop and get them cut down and some sort of hex shape on the outside, allen key hole, or at worst a screw head put into the cut down screws.

The other thing you could do is cut down the other end of the screw although this can be a bit tricky and you would need to leave enough thread obviously.

I had a similar situation with a schaller baseplate that was too big for the route on a swirled guitar body I was using. We just ground the base plate down until it fitted. Never looked back.

Go over to www.jcfonline.com and join the Jackson forumn. Ask your question in the tech section. There's a guy who sells shortend lock screws for just that conversion, a well as Gotoh's. Like $10 as I recall...
