Jackson trems? retrofit or leave alone?

Ok, I should have an 89 soloist(USA, s-s-h) coming shortly now, and it has the jackson/schaller trem in it. Should I retrofit something in it or leave it alone? To clarify:I dont do tons of crazy 'fluttering' and pitch bending and whatnot. I periodically slap it for flutter, and other than a bit of tremelo I only do slight divebombs.

Does it have a stamp on it that says "Scahller made in Germany" on it? If so, that's a JT590. Keep it; it's a pure Floyd. Anything else could be a JT6, JT500, or JT580, and may or may not be worth swapping; opinions differ.

retrofit?

I have a KE3 with the stock trem, its as good as a floyd rose, besides is it worth having a prized axe out of service while you get a retro fit? not me.

1989 SL1 will have the Schaller Floyd Rose on it that will say Jackson on the bass wing and Schaller on the treble wing.

These units are quite good and there's no point in swaping it for a FR if it works fine.
Their baseplate is made up of some alloy that makes them sound quite mellow compared to the brittle ring of the OFR.
Give it a go first and if it holds tune well might as well stick with it.
Something to note is that Schaller made trem posts and anchors have this extremely fine thread to them and even though they don't lock down the possible movement there is minimal.
Where did you get it for and how much did you pay for it?
I'm dying to get my hands on a SL2 mainly because of the clear fretboard.
I love blank fretboards and a PC1 might be my next toy.

Trading my 3120 for it. Actually, I have the choice of that one or a 96 sl2 with a clear ebony board. Is it made of alder(the body)? It has the jackson jt-5 trem in it. I wasnt sure of that one.

Yeah both guitars have alder wings and qurtersawn maple thru-necks.
I'd go with the SL2 but you are not me so good luck with your new SL1.

And even the JT-590 has "Made in Germany by Schaller" stamped on the trebble wing so it's all good.
Not as spongy as the Edge/lo pro Edge but perfectly respectable units in their own right.

putting a new floyd in isn't that hard. it takes a little longer than a normal re-string since you have to remove all the strings and set the spring tension correctly, but it's something you could easily do yourself.
