JB,Custom or Pearly Gates for bridge!

These are the 3 i`ve narrowed it down to! I have an Ibanez SCA220 (S-Classic) that i`m doing a pup mod to and can`t decide on these 3 Duncans.I`m not worried about how these pups sound clean because i do all my clean stuff with the neck pup,but i`m looking for a good hard rock/metal bridge pup to use with OD/Distortion but i also want it to have great tone, clarity and definition!Output really isn`t an issue as i would rather have better tone then higher output! My guitar has a Mahagony body,Maple neck,Rosewood fretboard and Wraparound Stoptail Bridge. Thanks!

I Love the sound you get from the Pearly Gates. I have had it installed in 3 of my guitars.

Re: JB,Custom or Pearly Gates for bridge!

Just Changed the Duncan Custom Custom in the bridge position of my PRS (Mahog neck/rosewood board, mahog/maple body, wraparound tailpiece) for a Pearly Gates as i found the Custom Custom, while nice, was just too dark and too high output - it also was not a good match for the '59 in the neck position. The Pearly Gates is superb - well balanced, very toneful, great definition with body AND treble sizzle - great clean, great overdriven, fantastic in combination with the neck P/U and even great tapped!

Ummmmm ..... I do go on a bit, don't I?

can't recommend highly enough!

Cheers

David

Re: JB,Custom or Pearly Gates for bridge!

i prefer the jb, it's my favorite bridge pickup at the moment, although the pearly gates is pretty awesome too. the jb sounds a tad bit more modern and has higher output, but it has nice clarity and wicked harmonics. it's good for rock, hard rock and metal. pearly gates has less output than the jb, but i'd say it replicates a more authentic paf vibe...with more of a rude attitude. 'sizzle' is the perfect way to describe the high end, it can get a sweet zz top-esque grind with the right amount of overdrive and can cop that bluesy vibe better than the jb.

i have the custom in another guitar and it's not bad, but it's much thinner sounding than the jb although the output is still high. some may attribute the thinner tone to the ceramic magnet, but i prefer the more full bodied tone of the jb (and just about all of the alnico humbuckers). one thing the custom will do better is tight metal rhythms, the low end is tighter sounding.

I have the same guitar. Mine is pretty dark sounding, and I didn't like the sound of it until I put in a fairly bright bridge pickup (Duncan Designed JB, actually). So I recommend the JB.

Hey giannifive......(Great guitar huh!) One of the reasons The JB was one of my choices is because of the Mahogany body with a bright pickup might even things out! Man....its still a toss up for me!!!!
