Thumbs up JEM7V or Tom Anderson Hollow Drop Top

I wanted some advice on which one I should buy.

Both are hot except Jem7 a little hotter in neck.

I love both and both feel great but I am stuck as my heart says Jem yet my brain says the Anderson.

Luthiers. Please Help

I have Tele and a LP Std 2008 but wanted something for my vai and Buckethead stuff as well as my Gary Moore stuff.

HELP??

Personally I'd go with the Tom Anderson it will do everything you want but so much higher quality than a Jem

Thanks Guitarnoize.

I kinda think this is the way to go, Do you think the Jem7v is overpriced then for what it is?

Happy playing Dude.

Everything is overprices if it does not fit your tone.
Nothing is overpriced if it gets your tone.

The 2 guitars are totally different and the tone differs much. If your choice is based on built quality alone (where both guitars are good) then you should think about learning to play better first and learn what you want tone wise before you buy a highend instrument.

Re: JEM7V or Tom Anderson Hollow Drop Top

The hollow drop top has so many options available that it can be very Strat or very "super" strat, so these two guitars could be almost as dissimilar as a tele and a Les Paul are.

If you're playing "rock" music you should ask yourself whether you play with your heart or your brain (don't answer with your hands ).

If the anderson will move you then that's what you need to get, if you secretly know you just want to pretend to be Steve Vai you need the JEM.

I'd personally take the JEM as I think it's a better designed instrument for "rock guitar" simply because it's a solid body with 24 frets. A hollow bodied 22 fretter is always going to be one step behind on paper, no matter how high it's build quality is.

Have you played either of these?

I think that modern Jems are a little bit over priced when compared to the high end RGs. I think the older jems had a greater diffrence in feel from the mid range models, particularly the necks.

Tom Andersons are expensive, but they do have legendary build quality.

The Jem won hands down, no question, when I A/B'd them both for 4 or 5 months. Guess which one of these I still have?

The Andersons aren't bad or anything, but the quality isn't superior to the Jem's in my opinion, and the instruments aren't as versatile. When people tell you that the Andersons are worlds better quality wise, ask them how long they had theirs I had mine for a while and played it a lot.

I have both of them too .
One is mass produced , and another one is hand made with superb attention to details .
I spend lots of time and money to made my JEM acceptable for playing , and now it is a decent guitar .
From other side , there is nothing you have to do with Anderson, since it is perfect .

Once you get your hands on Anderson , you don't play anything else anymore .
Intonation , tuning , sound , dynamic and playability is out of this world .

I gave my Jem to my Son .
He likes it a lot , but he doesn't like my Andy since only 22 frets .

In summary , those are two different guitars , not comparable .

I wish you could have both of them .

I guess the rest of us just got lucky then, in not having to spend lots of time and money on our Jems to make them acceptable, decent guitars.
