Re: Just tried the RG 7321... and I HATED it
The first 7 I ever had was an '03 7321. The neck had a good profile, but the neck itself was very weak, i could apply pressure to the back of the neck at the nut while playing, and do dive bombs ala randy rhodes style. I thought it was a good playing guitar, until I bought an '03 UV777BK from Rich and it played the crap out of the 7321. The fretwork on the 7321 was absolutely horrible in comparison, and the whole guitar was just cheap feeling, and sounding in comparison. The tuners were absolutely horrible and the neck was really weak, but the guitar had a really harsh sound that I sometimes miss, I think it was the powersound 7 pickups. I would buy a set of those and put them in a beater project or something just for fun, but other than that the 7321 I had was pretty much not the best guitar, but fun. They are however a good option for somebody looking to try out a 7 string without a big commitment, and with a good set-up im sure like most ibanez guitars, they can be made to play like a dream. They are a good starter 7, or a good gigging guitar, especially considering the hardtail. I haven't played a more recent indonesian model, but I think for the money it would be more wise to look for a 7620 that isn't too beat up.
