I think the differences are pretty obvious... about the only things the two guitars have in common are an alder body, maple neck and Floyd Rose-licensed trem. Everything else, from the pickups, electronics and aesthetics of the two guitars are about as different as you can get.

As far as pros and cons go, that's hard for anyone but you to determine, based on what you want and need out of your guitar.

LOL - yeah, the main difference surely has to be that the JEM7VWH is white whereas the ESP KH-2 is black

Both guitars are great, the main advantage as I see it that the JEM has over the KH-2 is the AANJ, and imho the trem.

The rest of it really comes down to what you want in a guitar. If you want the more generic sounding EMG pickups then the KH-2 has those as standard, if you want to have Vai's characteristic tone then imho you need to start with the Evos in the JEM.

The Pros and Cons are maybe better described if you were to say what you want the guitar to do. If it's from a general all round perspective I think the JEM wins simply on the wider range of pickup selections!

well, the obvious advice is to play both....
and ask in a esp forum too, because we're way biased. fact is a well setup original floyd will stay in tune, and the tone and feel are subjective.

that said....get the 7v!!!!!!!

I had a KH2 and it sounded and played very well. However, it is a different animal than the VWH (looks, electronics, dimensions) which I have also owned. The VWH, IMHO, is a better guitar, more versatile and tonally superior.

No, I am not an Ibanez nut either.

I agree with most of you. I have owned both also and currently use a custom shop ESP as my main guitar. I have a new (3 week old) 7vwh I really like. The one thing- my 7vwh had a high fret and spent a day getting set up by a master luthier. I also had a complete lemon of a Universe that was a disaster from day one until I returned it. I have owned several custom shop and signature ESPs without anything to say negative (although I am certain ESP probably has its share of lemons floating around). The 7vwh is a great guitar and while I do highly prefer Seymour Duncans to Dimarzios I really have no use for EMG81s these days. I won't even look at a guitar with EMG pickups. If I had to pick I'd pick the 7vwh and I am a fan of ESP. I don't even use my 7vwh for anything but fooling around (no recording yet) because the pickups don't fit in with my sound but I still really love the guitar!

Old post but I just had an idea. Have the esp custom shop build me an esp version of the 7vwh. lol. ANyway having played both I would have to say they are for different purposes, the feel of the kh2, is more suited towards rythm and the strings tend to be fuller. Also probably a little better for sweep picking. THe trem is the only downpoint to note about it honestly, and the tone of the pickups is subjective anyways
