Re: Kids size RG

you mean the Mikro RG? i've got one and worked on some (for nephews, my girlfriend etc), and the only thing that may need a swap are the tuning pegs, pretty bad. for the rest, no problems, a good setup and you're set.

Also worth a look : ESP LTD KH-JR.

Very Metal reverse headstock, cute little skull inlays and passive EMGs.

Re: Kids size RG

Assuming you're gonna buy one, let me ask how old is the kid?? IMO, they should get used to the size and feeling of real-size guitars (check this boy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6v4v9IWNsto), but if he/she is very young, then a micro guitar would be better I think.

Who knows, perhaps people who learn to play guitar at a very young age can stretch their fingers way better than the rest of us when they grow up

Re: Kids size RG

an oversized fretboard can be frustrating for a kid who wants to learn. it's better for their hand to get used to a properly sized fretboard, then switch to a bigger one as they grow up.

Re: Kids size RG

I'm wondering what other people's opinions are on what the right age to start a kid would be? My son is showing a lot of interest (I have 6 guitars, and he likes looking at them, looking at pictures of guitars, etc). He's not yet 4. I was thinking I should wait until he's 5 or 6.

Mikro RG looks awesome. I didn't know about that one.

Re: Kids size RG

My son got a Mikro for Christmas last year when he was 10. Not bad for $150. I always seems to go out of tune though just sitting in the bag. Perfect size for little fingers. Getting the young ones to practice is another story. I've got him on a 20 minute per day schedule. He does ok so far with a small repratoire of chords and a few 3-note-per-string scale patterns. I keep telling him though parctice practice practice.

Re: Kids size RG

I've been thinking about getting one for my daughter. She's really interested in guitars and attempts to play mine when we jam together. We want to get one, sand it down and do a hot pink paint job on it and customize the hell out of it. Pics when it happens.

I did that, but with an RG560 - it was before the Mikro came out. Definitely motivates them when they have a guitar that's special to them, and different from everyone else's. That pride in ownership goes a long way to keeping them interested.
