Does anyone know if the Korean factory that makes the S series is owned by Ibanez?

Thanks,

Re: Korean factory owened my Ibanez??

Nope. It's an independent company, but so is Fujigen, where the Japanese Ibanez guitars are made. Ibanez is not in the business of making guitars (with the exception of the custom shop), but rather the business of designing and selling them.

The Korean Cort factory is owned by (suprise suprise), Cort. They are a manufacturer of guitars in their own right. They are also licenced by Ibanez and several other companies to manufacture their guitars.

Re: Korean factory owened my Ibanez??

Thanks, that's interesting, I know some poor quality guitars have come from Korea, probably made by Cort, but it seems like the S series are pretty well made. I would prefer a MIJ S but since that's probly not going to happen I'm thinking of getting an S now. What do people think of the quality of the MIK S series, It seem like people are dissapointed but the MIJ are such high quality it's hard to match that.

You answered your own question. Most people dont like the qualit of Korean S guitars. It doesnt have so much to do with the high quality of Japanese S guitars, but more to do with the low quality of Korean S guitars. Just look for a used Japanese one

^^ Bang on. Look for an older S series, there are tons of them around on the used market. The S series changed quite a bit when production moved to Korea. The design isn't quite so sleek nowadays. They are still pretty decent, many people are happy with theirs, but I think no one could deny that the older ones are a bit more special.

I played a Korean S and it was a very different guitar from my S540 LTD. About the only thing they had in common was the shape was similar, but definately not the same.

The body edges are thicker, I'm sure, plus the neck sits higher off the body, and of course, so does the bridge + pickups. The sleek, streamlined feel is gone.

Re: Korean factory owened my Ibanez??

Over the years Ibanez guitars have been made by a few different factories in Korea. Where the serial number starts with C, it was made by Cort. For S it's Samick and for W it's World. There may be more by now as well.

+1 on an older MIJ S. I've always liked the older S series guitars, especially the 5407s.
