Laguna guitar project

Hey guys. This is my first post on Jemsite, so don't too harsh all right? Thanks.

So anyway, I've been thinking of getting a new guitar this coming spring when I visit the US. I went from an Ibanez ICT700 to a Schecter C-1 Classic to an Epiphone Les Paul/SG GX, which are all roughly $800.

Now, my current guitar is a Laguna. It's a Laguna LE422 with a Dimarzio D Activator X in the bridge, Pro Track in the middle and Air Norton S in the neck. I like to play hard rock/metal/shred/instrumental rock and that guitar is the heaviest guitar I've ever played. I only wish it had 24 frets and didn't have that Wilkinson trem which I've gotten tired of.

Then this caught my eye:
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Laguna-L...92-i1470127.gc

It's just a raw rock machine. Two humbuckers. 24 frets. No trem. Basswood body with quilted maple top (Some people say this is the holy grail of tone? All I know is that EVH and JP have used this combination). Maple neck, and if it's like my LE422's neck, I'll love it instantly.

If I put a Crunch Lab in the bridge and a LiquiFire in the neck, plus a set of black Dunlop straplocks, a strap and a gig bag/case, that would all total to $500. That's $300 less than the Ibanez, Schecter or Epiphone. I'll be saving a lot.

So what do you guys think, worth the money and would it sound great? I've heard a lot of bad things about basswood but is this any different?

Re: Laguna guitar project

I just played one of these the other day, and I was very impressed. I'm not saying that it far surpasses the Schecter stuff in the same price range, but IMO it did play better. I think you'd see a good bit more quality in the Ibanez and Schecter though. I've got a C-1 Classic now a friend has let me borrow it for a while and the quality is amazing. For the price though, I don't think that the Laguna is a terrible buy. More long term resale value in any of the others that you listed though.
