Limited run - '88 RG350 with a schaller Floyd

I thought this might be of interest for some of you.

I just stumbled across an 1988 ad for the 15th aniversary
of Amptown, a store in Hamburg, germany.

Well, across the whole page, there is a picture of their
special aniversary deal, the (quoting) "Ibanez RG 350 in
Steve Vai shape - Nothing rocks harder!".

Quoting the specs:
"
[..]
The RG 350 has it all:
- Basswood body
- Charvel-Style Maple Neck / Rosewood fingerboard
- Schaller Tuners
- Schaller Floyd Rose Tremolo
- 2 Humbuckers / 1 Single coil
"

The guitar has got an orange finish, and the
Trem looks to be a non-trs indeed. Hard to judge from
the pic whether it's indeed a schaller or something different.

Pics upon request! I'd have to borrow a camera, because
I don't want to sqeeze the minty-fresh magazine into a
scanner.

I didn't think the 350 was in production back in the glory days.

Is this the guitar you're speaking of? -- bottom of page --

That would be a very cool RG750 with the FA finish, with the original Ibanez Edge trem and Wizard neck.
The 350DX guitars look similar to the vintage 750's, but the similarities end there.

I happen to be the proud owner of one of these beauties....mine does have an 88 serial #, but they didn't appear in the catalogs until 89.

Re: Limited run - '88 RG350 with a schaller Floyd

Nope,
it doesn't have the sharkfins, it doesn't have the IBZ/USA Pickups and it doesn't have an edge trem. I've now looked at the pic closely and i'm pretty sure I can see the oval Schaller logo on the trem.

I know for sure they produced the RG340 in '88, with a trs type locking trem - it's in the US catalogue.
So a front routed 350 for the european market in that time wouldn't be a big surprise. The surprise is the schaller!
Thanks anyway.

Nice. I kinda like it without the sharkfins too.

That's interesting - I wonder who swapped the hardware, maybe the guys at Meinl.

That's, not weird, but why? Any chance the guys at the store would know anything about it?
