Lo TRS = tone robber.

I have a Lo TRS trem in my rg7420 and just cant get the guitar to sustain at all. The guitar plays great but sounds hollow as hell. The trem buzzes unless I have the fine tuners all the way down. I think this has to do with the floating saddle. Bad idea, I have edge trems in my other Ibanez guitars and love them to death even better than OFR's. Anyone have any success with the Lo TRS trem?

Re: Lo TRS = tone robber.

Swapped it for the exact same reasons on my RG470. A guitar tech told me that you can't get rid of this noise (maybe he told me so in order to sell me the Edge, but heck, I love it!)

And the edge fit the routing? I heard they were NOT compatable.

Re: Lo TRS = tone robber.

I have the same model 7-string.

Does yours have the Lo-TRS II by any chance?

Ibanez dealer told me mine might do that, but he said it was more frequent on the Lo-TRS II trems not made in Japan.

Mine doesn't seem to have that problem, but it's still got stock pickups. I'll report if my sustain gets better with Dimarzios, or not.

Re: Lo TRS = tone robber.

Ive got the Lo TRS. I did a set up on the guitar today and got some decent results. These trems need to be set low in the body for better string tension. I still need to keep the low b fine tuner tightened all the way to avoid the nasty vibrating rattle. I think I may block the base of the trem for more sustain.

It'll require routing... I don't know if there are any 7 string tremolos that won't...

Re: Lo TRS = tone robber.

OFR's are a direct replacement. I'm just gonna block it and be done with it.

Re: Lo TRS = tone robber.

You can change the awful lo trs with a Schaller or Gotoh Floyd Rose,I've done it in my 6 stringed RG and the sustain, tone and playability nearly doubled,it's surely worthy.
The only problem is the cost.Or you can take the Lo-trs down, sharp the knife edges(and do it well) and change the trem arm with an edge one, which is way better,i think cottam guitars can make this for about 30 Pounds...

Gotoh haven't got a 7 string version of their Floyd Rose.

Funny that though I love the edge and the lo pro..... I *hate* that bar! Different strokes for different folks and all.

I was lucky enough to get a jap RG470 and the trs-II has never given me any trouble, even after coming up to 9 years!

i have a 7420 too and the trs is great but i little bit hard to play with it if we consider the lo pro edge ( ihave one on my 550 ltd ) the trs is in great condition but i would like to chage it for a edge pro 7. but i 'm not sur lo-trs 7 is interchangeable with the edge pro 7 (even if i have to dig a little bit the cavity).
