lookin for a CHEAP player to kick around

hey guys... i got a Ibanez JS90th HAM and an ESP Telecaster... both quite fine guitars imo...

but atm i'm playing in the practice room with my band about twice a week where there is not too much space.
also i dislike to completely re-tune my 90th after transporting it in a case or gigbag...

i need a quite fat sounding (bridge humbucker mainly... duncan designed or sth.) cheap player. i don't want to control it for dinks or scratches when i occasionally touch the bassdrum with it or sth like that. preferably without a whammy bar as i don't need it for practicing anyways (if i want to have it in a record i can still bring my 90th... and i don't see cheap, good tremolos).

i thought about a squier fat strat... but the tremolo on this one keeps me from buying it... also it's bit too expensive considering i'd have to change pickups first, so it doesn't sound like TOTAL crap.

atm i'm thinking about an epiphone LP (although i hate les pauls) or the tom delonge squier strat (bridge duncan, 180 retail, no trem). problem is: the 2nd guitarist plays one and i don't know if this would be good...

or should i look for a 2nd hand jackson/charvel? but they got whammy bar's aswell...

well, give me some advice, pls and excuse my bad english. ask if you didn't understand sth!

ah yeah... i'd like to pay no more than 200 for it
and i could deal with a 2nd hand guitar

Sounds like you might want to wait for that OLP Petrucci if it's a hardtail anyway. Otherwise the other OLP's are alright. I just saw an OLP Silouhette that looked pretty good in a blue metalflake finish.

Squiers are decent if you get the right one. Go to your local shop, play some really cheap guitars, and pick one that sounds good to you.

OLP stuff, or even some Yamaha 1xx something, but you'll have to swap the pickups.

Sounds like you want only one brand.....OLP. They are incredible for the $$$. Many people on here will tell ya that. Especially people like Jeremy and Darren.

Yeah, OLP sounds good from what i've learned since yesterday.
Never heard of em before!

But... have absolutely no experience with MusicMan and don't know how they play and sound!

Just phoned the 2 local shops and they don't have them... one didn't even know them... sounds like i gotta go to munich again, there are some bigger ones with more guitars to test.

is the olp mm1 axis any good? which one do you recommend me to ask for and try?

thanks for the kind answers so far, folks

The OLP axis looks like a great guitar for the $$$, I spent some time with it, It has a nice neck and seems well built, the pickups sounded pretty good too. That said, I never played a real EBMM so I can't compare.

i got a squier tom delonge here, i borrowed from a friend for testing...

i really like the one sound it produces but sadly this is the only one it does... (one bridge pu and one volume pot, done)
no versatility at all and i'm not sure if this is enough for me...

i'll have a look at the olp petrucci (if it will be released at NAMM... if not i'll try the mm1 axis) and reconsider then...

the other guitars are out of consideration atm, except for the yamaha pacifica i'm borrowing from another friend on next week's monday

http://olpguitars.com/press/15_jan_0...ture_model.htm

http://olpguitars.com/press/15_jan_04_john_petrucci.htm

both look suitable to my needs...

the petrucci has 2 humbuckers and no pickguard, which i'd prefer...
the benji madden has 1 humbucker but a fixed bridge, which i'd prefer, too :P

damn... why can't they just make a plain guitar with 2 humbuckers, no pickguard and no damn vibrato?

decision will depend on price... guess it's gonna be the benji madden, though... for a player/beater

any clue when they'll be available in stores (germany)? next week, next month?

if a neck humbucker isn't vital consideration you might look into the esp/ltd mv series. double cutaway, fixed bridge, bridge humbucker, single coil neck. they have some nice flame tops, and are a great sounding and playing guitar...
