Looking at getting an Ibanez Acoustic

I dont have an acoustic guitar yet and I'm definitely looking into an Ibby because I just like Ibanez quality stuff.

Now, I'm looking at the AC240

I honestly dont know whether it would be better to buy a standard acoustic or get a semi so I can play unplugged as well as through an amp. I know 0 about Acoustics and what they need to be good guitars or whatever so any advice would be extremely helpful.

I've been jonesing for one of the Montages. The 650 looks real nice.

Here's a pretty good demo right here.

I've got the AW40NT. It's sooo sweet. The sound is completely different from a Martin or Taylor. In a good way.

The electronics make it much easier to gig with. If you perform live, an A/E will give you much more flexibility in shaping and controlling the signal and thus your sound. With a straight acoustic, you'd need to mic it in a live setting and the sound will suffer if you move the guitar away from the optimal mic placement.

At the same price point, you get a better overall instrument if you go the standard route. For me, playing at home or around campfires, that's the way to go, but if I started doing more coffeehouse open mic nights, I'd look at picking up an A/E.

The top is the most important part of the guitar; its vibrations produce most of the instrument's tone. Solid pieces of quality wood are more expensive than laminates (plywood or veneers). So at lower price points, you'll see all-laminate construction. Then, as you go up in price, you'll see solid tops, laminate back and sides. All-solid guitars are most expensive.

In the quality of tone produced, the acoustic is much more variable than an electric. You've read threads on here with arguments about the effect of tonewood on electrics; well, the effect is more pronounced on an acoustic.

Really the best advice to pick one is to find your price range and start strumming guitars. You'll find some more pleasing than others. Take notes and have no fear in immediately rejecting those you don't like . . . there are many fish in the sea. Personally, I've never found an Ibanez acoustic tone that I really liked. I've found many to be merely acceptable, and many sound tinny and weak. YMMV.

Peace

Mike

Re: Looking at getting an Ibanez Acoustic

Thanks guys.

Mikey:

My reason for wanting an Ibanez is mainly because I can't play on really thick necks without getting nasty wrist pain and I wouldnt want to buy a guitar that I can't even play. Ibanez makes thin necks, even for their acoustics, which is why I want one. They are middle of the road, average priced guitars so that works into my price point as well.
