Looking for a used Ibanez around $600 help

I have a Jem 555 coming from Guitar Center and from what I'm reading, it's not the guitar to own. I'm new to the Ibanez world and don't have a clue on all the models. I posted some pics etc on the Jem forum of the guitar coming. Man, am I confused on which tremolo etc. I do know that I want 24 frets, some cool inlays, quality pick ups and a slim neck. My price is flexible, this started as a whim. I currently own Gibson LP's. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

Re: Looking for a used Ibanez around $600 help

look for used RG 550 LTD.

Or If you want a newer one, look for used RG 2550/2570.

Re: Looking for a used Ibanez around $600 help

Have you owned any Ibanez in the past?

FWIW, the 555 is NOT a horrible guitar. Depending on the year, it can be a very good player with a good setup and possibly some new, more durable, hardware.

Still, $600 will buy you a LOT of RG's if that's the style your in to. You can, fairly easily, find anything from old school RG7xx's to newer Prestige guitars in very good condition. Do you have other preferences like fretboard wood, pickup configuration, hardtail or trem, front route with a pickguard (RG550), rear route (RG570). Direct mount pickups (RG1570), reverse headstock or standard? Any of these things can fall within your $600 range.

No, first timer...

I just found a rg770 with lo edge tremolo. 1992-1993.
And a RG 2570 on EBay, but it's silver.

The 770, IMO, is the best non signature Fujigen Ibanez you can get. I'm a HUGE supporter and player of the 7xx guitars. That said, the 2570VS can be an awesome guitar as well.

I'm assuming your looking at the black 770 and not the blue 770DX. Both 770's prices are too high.

The 2570 is priced appropriately as long as it doesn't go above $550-ish. The 2004 is the only year the VS had a matching headstock. That's a plus in my book. The Edge Pro on it is a VERY good trem. Of course theres no way to really know the condition of a guitar from an ad. I always figure they're worse than advertised. Whatever you buy- make sure you keep in touch here so we can help make it perfect for your style.

both are awesome guitars, but there is one more thing you should consider.
770 is square heel neck join, same as fender stratocaster, meanwhile the 2570 is All access neck join.
AANJ = easy to access the higher frets.
if you looking for easy- playbility guitar, go with AANJ.

but 770 is one of the golden era RG, I personally prefer something from the golden era, with original wizard neck spec. this neck that makes ibanez famous.

Good point, but I wouldn't say it's the same as a fender neck joint. The tilt joint square heel is a lot thinner than a strat heel.

The RG770 has the pick ups mounted to the body, wizard neck etc. Serial number looks to be 1992. I have an email out, see what happens. I have to admit, I do want a Jem, cause they look soooo cool. I really appreciate the help!!!

Re: Looking for a used Ibanez around $600 help

well, if you are more into the jems, looking at the RG could be wrong direction.

I don't know if you can get an used jem 505 in there for 600, but you should put that one too into consideration.
the 505 is a real jem , japanese, minus the fancy vine inlays and dimarzios.

if you don't mind with premium line, there is a SFG jem.
a real jem looker, only made in indonesia.

Keep in mind that your paying a lot for the handle and vine inlay. The signature guitars are made in the same factory and has all the same hardware as the RG5xx/7xx guitars. The Jems are not better quality guitars than anything else made at fujigen. They DO look good though.....

can you message me the item number of the 770 your looking at? I can't find it.

I could not agree more on what the man said above.
the 770 is one hell of guitar, once born as "poor man's jem', but time had been seen the RG line becoming a real ibanez flagship.

so it's back to you now...

This is an oversimplification. Jems have a totally different neck. Yes, you're paying a lot for some visual pop, but if you really like the neck on a Jem, there's nothing you can do to make an RG feel like that.

I'd say whether or not you like the stock pickups is a factor that should be considered. If you don't like what's in there, you should be factoring the cost of replacing them into your cost comparison.

I do love the 770 as well, although over time I think I've gravitated towards the 750, which is a front-routed version of the guitar with a pickguard.
