Re: Looks like Jackson want's back into the shredder market

I'm already gathering more information about charvel model 6 after seeing the 30th anni soloist.
considering the 30th soloist is not anywhere I want to spend for a jackson, so charvel model 6 seems to be a good alternative.

Try to find the '90-'95 Soloist Professional or the Charvel 675XL.......they're the same guitars as the Model 5 or Model 6 but with MUCH better hardware.

The Soloist Professionals came with a German Schaller Floyd (JT590)

Yeah, love that one too.
But the model 6 is the closest one to the original 84 soloist.

Edit : yeah I know the tremolo on the model 6 is a joke, not to mention some of them has funny locking nut as well...

THIS^^^

The JT6 trem is a POS and the offset nut is funny looking.

The only problem with the JT590 is that an OFR won't fit without routing......of course I have a router

BTW, Ryc...how is the neck on the soloist Pro?

I owned 01 Japanese jacksonstars SL-2, did not like the neck.
if I remember correctly, it's more like U-shape.
I'm not against the thickness, but it's more like the shape and the lighter ebony fretboard that bother me more that time.

I don't know how it feels to play. I took it apart before playing on it at all. Mine needed a LOT of work.

The carve looks to be more C-shaped and is very close dimensionally to my RGT3120. Mine has a 43mm nut. It's also compound radiused with 12" at the nut and 16" at the 24th. The ebony is deep black. The inlays are real MOP, but they're not anywhere near as nice as the ones found on a USA Jackson.

I saw the Pacer "Tiger" last night when I was looking around. It looks way better than the Jackson, but the headstock is God-awful.

I agree... not the best headstock. Much better than the vintage "limp sausage" headstock they had back in the day though. Not even EVH could make that headstock look cool... lol! Thats just me though... probably a lot of people that liked them (no offense y'all).

Re: Looks like Jackson want's back into the shredder market

regarding the neckthru, I played my ESP last night, I felt a little 'bumpy' feel with the ESP.
I don't know how to describe it correctly, it's like... excessive resonant.
Things that I should learn to live with.

I do love playing the bolt on necks more. With bolt on neck the punch is more focused.

There's a metal band from Kobe called Winzdor over here and I talked up the guitarist at the after show dinner a couple months ago. He was a Jackson user, and loved Jacksons, but when he finally was going to order a Jackson custom shop model, it was when there wasn't a Jackson custom shop dealer in Japan... He ordered an ESP. He says it was a big waste of money. He said the guitar he got out of the box needed a LOT of work to even get to be playable... Then a year or so later, a new Jackson custom shop dealer got started somewhere. Yeah, I don't buy the whole deal behind "completely handmade."

Re: Looks like Jackson want's back into the shredder market

Well Jacksons aren't completely hand made either, and for a good reason - why spend a lot of time to cut a body when a CNC does it in just a few moments :P

Looks like these Jacksons all have the same problem I had with my SL2H - the bridge is positioned too close to the treble side. The thin e string tends to slip off the fretboard. I've seen a lot of those - very annoying. My first SL2H didn't have that problem, but it did have pickup routes offset by almost an inch (!) and the tremolo route was perhaps designed for a seven string I'm wary of buying Jacksons :/
