Making my own Ibanez 1527m

I only play maple fretboard guitars and for some strange reason Ibanez (the only guitar maker i play) have been useless at making them :s ive been after a 7 string particularly the 1527m for probably over a year now.I've now come to the conclusion that I'm not going to find a genuine one. So I've been thinking about the next best thing.
A replica 1527m. The two options I can see are A. buy a 1527 or other very similar prestige model and have the fretboard replaced with a maple one.
Or B. buy a similar prestige and have a whole new neck made with a maple fretboard.
I would love suggestions of the best way to do this.
Would a luthier make an exact 1527m neck copy or is that copyright infringement?
Financially what's the cheapest way to do this well ( not that either option will be cheap I imagine!).

Re: Making my own Ibanez 1527m

Your on the same train of though that I have been.......

I love the look of the 1527M, but I've never been a huge fan of the Edge-Pro. I have an RG752 in blue that is the perfect candidate for a fretboard swap. I already have a nice piece of flamed maple to do mine with, and I can do my own swap.

If I were you, I'd pick up a new 752 and do the same. There are a couple of the big box stores that have them in white as well as the blue and black. Any good luthier should be very well able to do a fretboard swap on your existing neck for a relatively sensible price (under $250?)

Re: Making my own Ibanez 1527m

I had a square-heel, jem-style neck made for my RG550. It was around $350 IIRC. It probably would have been less if I went with basic dot inlays (got pyramids).

The headstock is cut like an Ibby headstock, but I won't put an Ibby sticker on it as it wasn't made by them.

Ive never considered the rg752. Does it have the five piece neck? Which is preferable. But if it comes in white so much the better!
Wish I could do my own fretboard swap. Big job I'm lucky I have a luthier friend who I might strongarm into doing the job cheap.
When you say big box stores what do you mean?

Who built your neck?
I've contacted a luthier and to build a prestige neck would cost a fortune. So thinking fretboard replacement tbh I'd love a tree of life inlay if a can afford it!

Re: Making my own Ibanez 1527m

I've just checked out the rg752 in white. It looks right apart from headstock which is white. So no big deal there. Does anyone know the difference between white and blemished white?!

Yes, the 752 neck is the same as the 1527's.

Look up "white rg752" and you'll see who's still selling them. The white one's were only available through these select dealers.

Re: Making my own Ibanez 1527m

The only websites I can find selling the rg752 in white are z z ounds and american musical both of which have terrible reviews. Hence I'm very reluctant to order from them. Any better more reliable places I can snag a 752 from?

Those are the only places on the planet with white.......sorry to say.

I bought my CBM from Rich- Ibanezrules.com (banner above) He's the ONLY person most of us will buy a new Ibanez from, but you'll have to settle for CBM or Galaxy black.

Re: Making my own Ibanez 1527m

I take it Rich doesn't have anymore in stock? So its either take the risk with the dodgy websites,or get a black one and paint it white? Or hang about waiting to get lucky on eBay!! Like I'm already doing for a 1527m
:,(

Well neither of the dodgy sites ship the white one to the UK by the looks of it DOH

Re: Making my own Ibanez 1527m

Sadly, Rich never got the white 752. If he had, one of them would be in my house now.

There are far fewer white 752's in the world than there were 1527M's. If you CAN'T get the white 752 shipped I'd be picking up a blue or black one and start the transformation. I'd take a wrong color 752 over any 1527 myself.

Perle Guitars. He's got a maple with a tree of life for $350 on his site right now.

Re: Making my own Ibanez 1527m

RGT fanatic why are the 752s better build quality? They should be similar as they are both prestige 7 string models?
