Making my RGT3120TV just a little bit more perfect... - As i

Well...I couldn't leave well-enough alone! *My dream guitar has always been purple, with a flamed maple top, gold hardware and a killer abalone vine inlay. *This weekend, I came one step closer to making that dream a reality! *

I took the gold hardware from my new JEM7VWH (thanks Shawn!) and swapped it out with the Violet Chrome hardware on the RGT3120TV. *The results were most pleasing! *The JEM looks great now, and is a little bit more subdued (read: I'm definitely going to gig with it now!), and the RGT is simply elegant. *All it needs now is the abalone vine... *

The only piece of hardware that wouldn't directly transfer over is the nut itself: The RGT nut is a top-mounted model, while the JEM nut is the traditional back-of-the-neck mount. *The screws that hold the RGT nut on are basically just wood screws, and would not fit the thread on the gold VWH nut. *Also, the mounting holes for the RGT nut are countersunk a bit so that the screwheads are recessed into it. *But...the nut itself isn't very visible at all, so it doesn't bother me too much. *

I had an extra set of gold polepieces laying around also, so for the time being, the PAF PRO's have one row each of gold and chrome poles. *It looks nice I think, but my purple Tone Zone & FRED with gold polepieces will be in in about another 2 weeks or so. *

Here it is!:

Looks more & more like a PRS every day! *

Seriously, tho, that looks really sharp. You've got me thinking about trying to scrounge up some gold hardware for my RGT now. If only the PGM 500 had a trem on it...

Very nice. The gold certainly adds a touch of class to its appearance... gold and purple are a pretty combo. It's too bad Ibanez used a coloured clear instead of just a double-dye, so the scraped binding would be more prominent.

The purple pickups might be a bit over-the-top for my tastes (the gold pole pieces are a nice touch, though), and a vine definitely would be too much. Don't forget that on a neck-thru guitar, it's a LOT harder to reverse an inlay job if you don't like it later. It's not like you can swap necks.

For the locking nut, you could just use the gold pressure pads on the top-mounted violet chrome nut, and that might look okay.

I agree, a vine may not be necessary, but if it's your dream, go for it! * *Remember, it's your guitar. *

I'm more curious to see what the VWH looks like with chrome ware. *Chris, any pics of that?

Well...the RGT3120TV got to go to it's first gig this weekend. It passed with flying colors! I was really surprised that I actually used it for most of the night! I also took my trusty Strat and my S540TN doubleneck. The RGT took over for about 60% of the evening's duties. GREAT tone and sustain! Plus, it looked great under the lights. Got tons of compliments on the guitar and the sounds that came from it. I was a bit nervous taking to such a good-sized gig (over 500 people there Saturday night!), but I am definitely not disappointed.

Hey thats great! I really hope they make a 7 string version with similar neck style and radiius and string spacing.. I love the neck!

I really want you to keep us up to date on your guitar, I can't wait to see those pups you ordered for it.

Finally!

I just finished installing the custom-ordered DiMarzio FRED & Breed into my RGT3120TV, and I must say...I'm VERY pleased with the outcome! Let me know what you guys think!
