Maple fretboard

I have a RG3120...all stock. Lately I've been GASing over Ibanez guitars with maple necks/fretboards. Almost considered selling or trading the 3120 for something like a 1550 but there's too much to like about 3120 (mahogany body, flamed maple top, etc...) to let it go. So my question is: will a 1550 neck fit the 3120? If I should be able to find one on Ebay, for instance, would it be interchangeable?

Re: Maple fretboard

It should fit without trouble. The Prestiges all have the same neck pocket. You could also use a pre Prestige AANJ Neck. There are only slight differences in width over the years, wich should be of no concern, as you can simply use some sandpaper to widen the pocket.
Hope this helps you!

That would be very close to my ideal guitar. I just wouldn't want the middle pickup. I think I could deal with it, though. What a beautiful guitar!

Just a side note: I've been here a week or so now and I find it fascinating that people can figure out model names for stuff. I'm sure I'll get it one day too, but still... anyway, I like maple boards too. So... yeah.

I bought this guitar just for the simple fact that Nick had a 2nd neck made for it with a maple fretboard.

Re: Maple fretboard

Is it just me, or are maple AANJ necks a pain to come by? I'm piecing together a project guitar with an AANJ, and it seems like my only options will be either to get one custom made or (more affordably) get a used 1550 or late 550 and then sell the loaded body.

Not to mention that Ibanez.com/parts is useless for anything other than finding out which parts were used on which guitars. 3/4 of what you search says you have an invalid part number, and the other 1/4 is out of stock and absurdly priced. PGM301 necks come up as almost $900

Re: Maple fretboard

One of the considerations on my getting the 1550M was that it has a maple fretboard, and I have been pretty happy with the RG, except for the alien infestation...
