Sometime over the last few months I got obsessed with the idea of stockpiling a bunch of mapleboard RG's. This was due to the fact that my main player, a swirled 750/550 hybrid I put together was head and shoulders above anything else I had. That and the fact there's nothing quite like the golden era 550's too, of course. My goal was to accumulate 6 of them ( Two for each of the 3 tunings I'm using) Well, after 5 or 6 months of wheeling and dealing I finally reached my goal. So here comes the porn.
First up is the swirled 750/550 mutt. This one's a 750 body with a 550 neck, loaded with an EMG 81/SA/85 X series set. This one is in dropped A standard. Just an awesome guitar, and one I never see moving.
The next one I got was this black 89' 550. Just a real solid axe and totally stock. I have this one in drop D.
The next one I picked up was this 89' Lazer Blue 550. This one is in real good shape, although it does need a couple tweaks, the 15th fret is a tad bit raised and the Edge needs to be tightened up, the bar is kinda just floating around in there....minor stuff that I'll get around to. This one's in drop B.
The next one I got was this 87' Atlantic Blue 550. I don't particularly care for this series of Ibanez finishes, but of them all, the Atlantic Blue is the least objectionable to my eye. This one is in not bad shape at all considering it's age. And yes, I do plan on replacing the wacky switch tip at some point...lol. This one's in drop D.
Finally we come to first of two I got from dgabriel713 (Great guy to do business with btw) This one is a 91, RG 565, with a Duncan in the bridge. It's got some honestly earned battlescars here and there, but that's never bothered me......almost prefer it actually. This one's a really great playing guitar. I got this one in drop D.
Lastly the second one I got from dgabriel......a very cool and somewhat modified 91' RG 565. In addition to the incredibly cool taxicab yellow finish, it's been routed for H/H pup configuration. This one, as well as most of the others eventually, is gonna get actives. It's also a real contender for #1 player. With actives, this one will be my frontline drop D guitar.
I wanted to take a group shot outside today, but ran out of time. I'll shoot for that tomorrow though.
