I tried a Strat style Maverick at Andy's Guitars on Denmark St London. I'm not sure of the model number but it felt pretty nice and was well screwed together for a Korean instrument. The only real beef I had was with the roller volume and tone controls. I've been playing strat style guitars for so long now that they just felt totally weird to me. If you can live with the controls then I'd say pick out a good'un and swap the pups for some Di Marzios. Then again you could buy an RG for similar money and do the same thing. You also get a low pro as standard!!

I've seen those. I've been tempted to try one, those roller controls look quite cool.

I've not tried that exact model yet. But I've tried the SF-3 with the holes in the neck for dots and upgraded pickups, *and the F-1 and found both to be ok guitars about comparable to an RG470.

On both the guitars I tried, I had serious trouble with the trem, getting it to stay in tune although it did flutter nicely and ironically found the pickups, especially on the SF-1 to be ok units.

For 600 and looking for and H-S-H equipped guitar I'd spend my money on the RG570.

I like the idea of getting the Ibanez but one of my problems is that I'm vain and I like looking different, I think a Maverick F-1 equipped with a Lo-Pro and Evolutions would be pretty unique

Kevin

PS. What do you reckon the chances of Maverick letting me buy one with no hardware on are like? (I just love the Lo-Pro and Top lock 3 too much )

Well I personally think the chances or scoring a "body + neck only" form Maverick are somewhere along the lines of being able to order the same sort of think from the Ibanez Custom shop

ie, next to nothing.

However, you never know and it might be worth contacting them about it. I'm sure either your local dealer can help you with this, or one of the magazines like "Guitarist" might be able to provide a phone number for you.

I've tried the weird shaped ( something like a Mockingbird/bastardized Kelly kinda design )
Maverick, I think it was the X-series one and the guitar was poorly set up. It might've been
ok with a bit of tweaking though. The volume/tone controls are extremely weird and I have
no bloody idea why somebody would want em like that, I mean, the traditional knob design
is obviously still pretty much the best one out there, why change it?

If you wanna look different, get your own custom made guitar

Too damn right! There's a couple of places around london that can sort you out, the best idea being to buy an old RG with a lopro that's unloved and batteed, salvage the parts (and hopefully the neck) and then get someone to make you a body like the maverick, with choice of woods, finishes etc. It's not expensive, I had a custom body made for 300 a couple of years ago, and it was good craftmanship. And then you can be as weird and as flashy as you want!
