hey guys and gals, over my half term ive been set an assingment for my music course, i have to compose a peice of music to a picture in the style of the band of my choice, now since im getting pretty obsessed with meshuggah nowerdays i chose them, now i thought it'd be really cool to get that 8 string sound on this track but since i only have a 7 string that requires me to tune down quite low which gives an effect i can only describe as "flappy panels" (i dont why, seemed apropriate at the time) so i orederd in a pack of those Zakk wylde boomers and two other wound strings, but im aware that an 8 string has a larger scale neck than a 7 string, so are these gunna be okay? or will i need to screw arround with the bridge (fixed), i hope i dont but uh, yeah advice guys...
They (meshuggah) played tuned-down 7's I believe while they were waiting for their Nevborns to arrive when they started the 8 string thing, so I guess it can be done. People tune to B on a 6 string, so I guess tuning to F# from B will be ok, as long as the strings are chunky enough.
yeah i think the strings are thick enough, something stupid like .70, god knows how that works on a 6 string... without snaping the neck in two i mean.

well i got the strings, strung up.... jesus! chunky! okay i cant even get higher than A sharp on the old low B position, the .70 wont even fit through the nut but it works, i miss my high E though....
