Cool Moral support needed. RG2EX1 vs RG321 vs Other RG hardtail

I am looking to buy one of these this week. The Indonesian ones are available locally. I have to special order anything better than that. I like the Wizard 2 neck ,but am not sure it is worth the extra $300.

If I could try the higher end model I would know right away which I'd prefer, but I'd like some input from youse guys with experience... dude.

I am staying Hardtail all the way. I basically want a Paul Gilbert style guitar that is cheaper, minus the graphics.

I can re-do the elecronics so that does not concern me. I have a EVo and a HfroH ready to put in there.

Your opinions appreciated.

Get a used 321 or 421 off the bay for less than you have to spend for a new, then mod away.

RG2ex1 has basswood body and RG321 is mahogany.. mahogany has fat tone, and basswood is like between mahogany and alder.. so its your choice. if you care about wood tones. gudluck! - Also basswood is a LOT lighter than mahogany.

All of these guitars come with a Wizard II neck.

yes.. wizard II

even if you buy those indonesian made RG's then change the pups with Dimarzio's or SD and set it up professionally its going to sound killer! - its like winning the indy 500, but with Volkswagen engine!

I am sorry. I needed to clarify. I wanted the Wizard 5 piece neck, not the 3 piece. Any comments on the differences between those two?

usually Prestige neck has only 5 piece neck, not the lower model.. they still have 3 piece neck Wizard II.

You wont find a hard tail RG guitar with a prestige Wizard neck unless you go buy a PGM model. But that will be a lot more expensive than the ones you mention.

The Wizard II is not bad at all. There is a 1 or 2mm difference in thickness in comparison with a Wizard. The profile of the neck and fret board is where the differences are more noticeable. The neck is slightly rounder than the Wizard neck, and the fretboard radius is flatter on the Wizard as well. I personally like the shape of both.

The best thing to do seeing as the quality on the Indonesian/Korean guitars vary is play as many as you can and find one that has the best feeling neck. Like others have said you can't really go too wrong with one of the guitars you have asked about, just play a few and find the one particular guitar that feels best. Then you can upgrade the electronics and hardware when deemed necessary and/or can afford to.

Some of the neck-thrus have 5 piece necks - the RGTs or whatever they are. I'm not sure if the hardtail ones have it, but I assume they would.

The RGT42FXs do have the 5-piece construction. --Jason

Thanks. You are all really helpful. I will probably buy the Indo over the Japanese just because of convenence.

I tried a RG1570 just to get a feel for the upgraded neck and liked it very much, but the 3 piece isn't so bad (not bad at all really). I just wanted an excellent guitar. I am unloading a set neck Schecter Blackjack PT over this so I have to make it count.
