My 8-string is becoming a reality...

My dreams of building an 8-string is becoming a reality. I already have the neck, but today, I ordered all the hardware and the pickups. Once I have all of this, it's all getting sent to Eddie Kolesar Guitars (www.ekgco.com) where he will build the body. He will also assemble the guitar.

Specs...
8-string guitar (tuned low to high: F Bb Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb)
String gauges: 10 13 17 26 36 46 56 74

NECK:
24-fret hard maple neck
Brazilian rosewood fretboard
Med Jumbo frets
No inlays (fret markers on the side of neck)
8 in line Schaller mini locking tuners
25.5" neck scale

BODY:
Alder body based on an Ibanez RG (Natural Satin Finish)
All-access neck joint
2 custom EMG Active Pickups
EMG Afterburner push/pull gain boost
2 volume knobs
1 3-way pup selector
Hipshot 8-string bridge

***All hardware will be black.

ME HAPPY!
Thanks to Eddie @ EKG for all the help he's provided! THANK YOU, EDDIE!
Once I come up with more money, I'll most likely contact LGM for a sweet finish.

EDITED: To reflect the changes in specs.

You'll have to let us know how that tuning works on a 25.5"-scale guitar.

And of course, pictures pictures and more pictures

Well, I scored the neck off Ebay for less than $100. Considering what a custom built 8-string neck NORMALLY goes for, I couldn't whine about the scale length.

And yes, lots of pics.

Wow... can't wait to see it! You're gonna have to be careful with that 8-inline headstock! Don't want to poke someone's eye out with that thing!

I hear ya! It's a monster version of a Fender headstock. Eddie is going to re-shaped it a little to resemble more of a super-strat look, thus it'll compliment the RG body better. I think we're going for more of an Ibanez/Jackson hybrid.

The funny thing is, my Steinbergers have been my main guitars for the last year. It'll be weird to have a headstock again, much less, a GIGANTIC one!

Do you have pics of the neck? I looked for it on eBay's completed items, but couldn't find it.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO if you oil it you'll need a new body to get painted. Send me an email for what you want first, at least get a price, but if it's oiled, it won't be painted at a later date

I was talking to Mr. Conti (the jazz fella with the 8 string) and he uses 25.5" scale on all of his jazz instuments and he said they play fine. I suppose its just a case of choosing the correct string gauge.

Bob Conti is a tremendous player and I have imense repoect for him, but I don't even like a 7 string with a 25.5 inch scale. I can't iagine a low E or even a low F# on a scale less than 27 inches.

Well, everyone's entitled to their opinion. To each his own, ya know? I tried the Low F tuning on an ESP 7-string (25.5") & it worked fine.

Intonation is crap on a 25.5 neck tuned that low, but hey, that's the beauty of the beast.

Definitely post many many pics of this axe when it's done. And maybe a few dozen every now and then as it's being made.

To all you guys with extended scale lengths; how do they play? I would have thought the high E would be too taught, is it noticable?
