Wow

Just one question: are the slight differences in the headstock and body (compared to a standard RG) because of the 8th string, or just to your own personal design?

Watch your back, because when you're carrying that thing home, i'll be waiting in a dark alley, getting ready to go truncheonic on your ass and steal that sweet thang.

Wow... that looks pretty wild. The tiny little Ibanez "notch" at the tip of the headstock looks so insignificant compared to the gargantuan proportions of the rest of the head. I didn't think 8 inline tuners would look right, but Eddie pulled it off! I hope the strings will be long enough to reach waaaay out there!

Amazing work. It's sure to turn some heads and cause some "WTF" comments when people count the strings. I love the twin parallel "racing stripes" in the grain. You should just give that a nice stain and be done with it.

Thanks everybody!
The differences in the body are mostly Shannon's ideas. Longer top horn to compensate for the added weight. Lower horn shorter to "match" the upper horn. The entire lower cutaway and AANJ is different to accept the 8 string neck. The headstock started out as a Fender-ish type headstock. Shannon really wanted something like an Ibanez style headstock to match the RG style body. I did what I could with what I had ;-)

Again, thanks for the kind words

Yep, Eddie explained it pretty well. I want to take the RG design & tweak it with a few mods. I've always thought that an RG would look even MORE killer with an extended top horn & a shortened lower horn. The end point of the top horn was extended out to the 12th fret, whereas, the lower horn's end point was shortened to be under the 19th fret. I sort of emulated a Washburn EC36 when it came to the horns. That's why I shortened the lower one. I want EXTREME access! The extended top horn should keep the guitar from being neck-heavy. Plus, I wanted this guitar to have a "neck high" playing position (ala my Steinberger). I also went with a jem-style output jack & an unconventional electronics setup (2 vol, EMG Afterburner, 3-way LP pup switch).

And Yes, Eddie did a fantastic job transforming a Strat-style headstock into an RG8!
