Thumbs up My DIY JPM-style shredded in Acid Green

My father and I just completed this 2-year (on and off) project. We started with an original RG3550 body, took few mm off the top, installed maple top, moved the controls around to match the JPM layout and built the neck from scratch.

The pickups are DiMarzio Illuminators with a regular 3-way switch and push-pull tone pot that splits both pickups.

The neck is 5-piece with flame maple and wenge strips and beautiful macassar ebony fingerboard.

For the tremolo we went with Edge Zero II which is a bit shorter around the fine tuners, so while rearranging the controls, we also made the top cavity a bit shorter to avoid having a gaping hole. Other than that, it fit the body perfectly.

Body finishing is the only thing we didn't do ourselves. I picked Porsche Acid Green paint code, took it to a local car body shop and they mixed it based on the paint code.

Few pics below. Tried adding them as [ img ] tags, but they were not showing up. If anyone knows how to fix, it would be appreciated

Re: My DIY JPM-style shredded in Acid Green

Thanks. The plan A was very different, but failed so this is plan B

In the plan A, we did the finish ourselves with candy apple spray kit we got from Germany. To add interest and depth, we masked out JPM design and had it covered with regular grey basecoat and the rest is candy flake basecoat. When all done, the result was spectacular. From certain angles it looked like uniform color, from others the design was shining through with a totally different shade. It was very unique and still resempled JPM design...But after a month it just cracked all over and we had to strip it and redo it from scratch.

Nice work... Gorgeous guitar! Noticed a strange looking headless Tele in the background?

Re: My DIY JPM-style shredded in Acid Green

Thanks. The headless Tele in the background is my #1 guitar...we built it as a travel guitar few years ago but it plays and sounds so sweet, that I ended up playing it the most

It's alder body with flame maple top. Flame maple neck, quartersawn piece with soft asymmetrical, beefy (23-25mm) V profile. The neck is full scale, body is 20% smaller. Dimarzio pickups (Chopper and Fast Track 1)....it's inspired by Kotzen Tele, but has its own thing for sure

Here's few pics of that one

Amazing... The workmanship and specs are just perfect, I like the chunkier necks... plus I've been dabbling with some cool rockabilly songs and wondering if I should get a "twangy" tele style guitar. What kind of bridge is that?

Re: My DIY JPM-style shredded in Acid Green

Thanks. That is Hipshop Headless System. Comes with the headpiece. It's pretty good, I think. The only two complaints I have are - strings are left sticking out of the headstock so it's easy to pierce something or someone if you hit it with the headstock. Also, the low E string can sometimes get hard to get out of the saddle, gets stuck due to the width...but it's not too bad.

They recently made the tremolo version too.
