My Edge Pro drives me insane!

So I've got the trem on my ibanez in level, in tune, the nut is tight, the strings are locked in VERY tight, and they're locked in VERY tight in the bridge as well.

STILL! It will go out of tune when i divebomb or just dive about moderately. mostly on the gstring that goes pretty flat.

it goes back to normal when i yank the bar up.

I know it shoulnt be like this and I've played Edge III's that have not even had this problem, and this is supposed to be an Edge PRO..

would it be the knife edges and string posts? should i get some kind of lubricant for them?

the trem is almost certainly "never used", so it shouldnt be a wear and tear problem.

anyone?

Cool Re: My Edge Pro drives me insane!

Hey man!

I have had a problem on the locknut, the little block that locks against the string had a spot wore out where it contacts the string. Pop that off and maybe flip 180 degrees.

See if that helps???

Have a look at the tech section of Ibanez Rules.

Re: My Edge Pro drives me insane!

Its only the G string and when you pull up it goes back in tune? The strings got to be moving at the locknut.

Maybe try cutting a piece of notebook paper to fit it under the G string only, at the lock nut, lock it down, see what it does... that'll shim the string up about .010". It's temporary but see what it does?

Re: My Edge Pro drives me insane!

1.Try using other brand of strings see if that helps.
2. Adjust the tension on the springs in the back of the guitar slightly so all the strings go
slightly sharp. Then re-tune using the bridge tuners.
3. Check to see that the bridge screws are not loose.
4. Check the knife edges to make sure they are not worn out.
5. oil or lubricate the knife edges

Re: My Edge Pro drives me insane!

Everything is tight. everything is new.

I'll get some oil and chapstick/lipbalm tomorrow and see if it helps.

sucks that i cant even use the trem because it throws it outta tune.

Re: My Edge Pro drives me insane!

Alright, its setting most strings out of tune. gsting is most noticeable still.

Even with light diving.

WTF!?!?

Re: My Edge Pro drives me insane!

Hey man!
Have you checked out the tips in the Tech setups and F.A.Q on the home page?
There is a section in the Maintenance and Modifications "Tremolo Porblems - Why Can't I Stay in-tune?". Give that a read...
Hopefully this will help you out!

Re: My Edge Pro drives me insane!

I have, and all that is left is to use some lipbalm/chapstick on the knife edges and trem posts, as well as using some kind of oil on the 6 string-things on the trem.

Not sure what oils that work though.

This shouldnt even be happening AFAIK, with such a good trem. an edge III would hold tune lightyears better than this ****.

Re: My Edge Pro drives me insane!

In your other post you said... "I have no floating trem experience, not maintenance and such at least"... but, since then, it sounds like you have tried everything and researched, is there a local shop you can take it to?

I feel for you man and it shouldn't be giving you this much trouble!

Re: My Edge Pro drives me insane!

if you use lube, i recommend big bends nut lube. chapstick tends to gunk up if you ask me, and that can't be good. also, be careful tightening the string locks at the nut and bridge, you can strip them if you tighten to hard and then you're really screwed.
