My Ibanez

I've had this guitar for a while now, changed some things but now I'm wondering what kinda Ibanez this is.

It's a red Saber model from ( around) 1990, but I'm not sure.. It has Gotoh locking tuners and a regular tremelo. It's had 2 SC's and a humbucker at the bridge. It had a see through pickguard, 5 way switch, 1 tone and 1 volume knob.

The serial number says: F219417

Don't know how to post pics, but I'll try to soon enough.

Hope you can help.

Re: My Ibanez

The serial shows it's a 92 guitar, and I have an SV470TR, which is a transparent red (TR) Saber model with a vintage (two pivot) tremolo and locking tuners.
However, it has H-S-H and no pickguard.

Photos you may post on imageshack.us or photobucket.com and you'll have a BB code for the photos after submitting them, just paste the code in here.

That guitar is dying for some Andy Timmons pups.

Re: My Ibanez

I don't think it's a Saber because the Sabers had this tilt(?) jack. Perhaps R470?

Re: My Ibanez

It looks a lot like the 442 RTR, but that a Radius series right?
Could it be that the pickguard was a aftermarket thing, because I bought it used.

I've been redoing the guitar lately, it has a new 5 way, new potmeters, a Seymour TB6 humbucker. the other pickups will be replaced soon enough:P

Re: My Ibanez

Looks like you're in the Netherlands, so it's likely that you have a Radius model that wasn't available here and wouldn't be pictured in the US. catalogs. The guitar does look a bit like a 542R, except that it appears to be an alder body like a 442R. Also, it has a HSS pickup configuration and transparent finish like on the 442R, whereas the red 542R was a solid color (I have one) and they had three singles. It clearly isn't a 442R though, because they had the maple neck. Finally, the only clear pickguard Radius sold over here was the RV470 released in 93 -- yours doesn't match that guitar either, though (single coil in th neck, wrong color and chrome hardware). Awhile back a forumite had a R354 (??) that was also a bit similar to yours.

So who has some Euro catalogs from that era?

Cheers,
Bert

Re: My Ibanez

found a similar one in 1993 Japan catalog, it's called R355:

BUT... in 1993 USA catalog it's called RV470 (different necks)

Re: My Ibanez

Yeah, thats it, I used to own an R354 Radius.

I bought it about 2 years ago now, from Scott_74 on these boards. The older members will probably remember. It was a fine guitar. Scott had sanded-down the finish and oiled the body. The R354 was hum-sin-sin configuration, but everything else was exactly the same as the R355.

I sold it because I didn't like the neck radius in the end, but it was a lovely and well built guitar.

Re: My Ibanez

DisturbedOne,
Does your guitar have the AANJ neck joint? Also, does the neck have a skunk stripe up the back? Both of those were features of the Viper neck on the RV470 (=R355 in Japan catalog), but were lacking on the 542R and 442R.

Re: My Ibanez

It's definitely the "RV" base. It's that body shape, pickguard, and bridge. The appointments, like chrome hardware and neck single make it unique, but probably just a normal factory Japan or Europe only guitar. I love it. Send it to me when you're done with it!
