My new Ibanez

For my first post I thought you might like to see my latest buy

http://www.itclark.force9.co.uk/RG540 p2.JPG

Does anyone know anything about it ?I`ve seen other models but they have only 22 frets and a single coil at the neck.Aso its got custom *made inlaid in the neck at the 21st fret, although I`m not sure if it is a full blown 'custom'..It has an IBZ F3 at the neck and an F2 on the bridge.Any info/comments most welcome.

WOW!

it's a 540 Power II, or 540PII as they were in the book. I used to have one exactly the same, but mine was purple. the pickguard was standard on the production models, IIRC, it was just alex's that didn't have it.

awesome guitar! the neck is like a wizard, but even wider - 45mm at the nut. the stock pickups were awesome too - IBZ USA F2 in the neck and F3 in the bridge. only this guitar and the original Power model ever had the F3, and it was a screaming pickup.

the ones in the 1990 catalogue were all 24 fret, and there was a S/H model as well as H/H. IIRC, the available colours were white, black, purple and yellow.

I wish I still had that guitar... it rocked the house! if I see another one near me I'll definitely buy it...

congrats!

The double humbucker models were available in Australia, and probably the UK at the end of the 80's. Your serial number should tell you it's age.

It looks like the finish has been re-done or removed on yours, but it's hard to tell from that single picture.

The Aussie ones came stock with the plastic silver scratch guard.

The "Custom Made" inlay was something Ibanez did a lot of back then, though there is nothing at all custom about any of the guitars that came out that way. Well, none that I've seen that is.

The 540P II came with a W type neck.
1st fret width 17mm
12th fret *width 20mm

Colours were BK - Black, WH - White and PM - Purple Metallic.

There is a catalogue pic here :

Thanks for the info guys ,I always wanted one of these models since I saw a guy using one in a band in my local 11+ years ago!.I`m not disappointed it plays and sounds great .I was wondering if the body was standard as after looking at one for sale on ebay.com it seemed to have a different neck joint as shown in pic

cheers for now

If the lower body horn could be considered a chin, that would be the Jay Leno of guitars. *Hehe, anyway, congrats on the new axe.

congrats Neobrit!
i just bought one from SevenStringer. mine is the model that Skolnick holds on 1990 cat: bright yellow, H/S, 22 frets, no pickguard.

i've always dreamt of her, since i was 14 (now i'm 28!), so i finally decided to buy one.
i gotta say that the stock pick-ups... KICK-ASSES!!!!!!!!
they blown my head away!!!! amazing crunch and full distortion, with plenty of harmonics!
i'm just waiting to have someone to take some nice pics, then i'll post some here (when the File Upload will work back again...)

congrats dude!

I had the black pickguard HH 24-fret model as my main guitar for years... until I got my 442R!

The 540PII was excellent in all respects. I recorded tons of stuff with it and played many shows with it. It was hard to sell, but I wasn't playing it any more.

And Nuno's absolutely right, the pickups sounded awesome! F3 in the bridge, F2 neck, together with that basswood explosion of sound.

And Nuno -- conratulations! You finally got one! Any pics?

Thanks for your replies @nuno thats a great coincidence can`t wait to see photos .I`ll be posting some better quality ones of mine soonishThere is something about this model that is well cool I`m suprised it wasn`t given its own designation rather than being a derivative of the 540.Does anyone know how long it was in production [email protected] have you got any recordings on the net or elsewhere of you playing the 540p? love to hear it. I`m suprised yours was hard to sell ,I know a few people that have been after one for years even if it does look like jay leno
