My new RGT3120 situation

I just received my brand new RGT3120TDB yesterday! Absolutely stunning, what a sound... but, being that is it supposed to be a brand new guitar, it is a 2002! That really does not bother me too much, because I think I rather have the Edge rather than the Edge-Pro. I also noticed a pretty good sized chip at the bottom of the base of the guitar. I called them up and got 5% back making this guitar come to right under $998.00 for everything. The neck is pretty thick for my taste, but I can get used to it.... plus I can tell that that is where it really helps the sound be where it is.

The question is, should I feel ripped off that this is a 2002 model! Should I just return it and get like a RG 2120x, or a RG 2550? How is the sound comparatively to other prestige? This is my first Neck-thru and first prestige, and any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

i would say that you got a pretty good deal at that price, of course I say that not knowing how bad that chip is.

Trem wise you're fine, the lo pro edge's were around forever and are great trems....plenty of posts here about the differences.

It's a great guitar, just enjoy it...the neck thru construction will probably add to the sustain pretty significantly over a bolt on neck.

Thanks Gresh! The chip is not tooo bad... it is probably a little bigger than a pea, and just nicked the paint away on the base behind the strap button. I think I got a good deal as well, but I just wanted some verification. The tone is awesome! I am so used to playing my RG320.. there is no comparison. I am so used to the thinner necks though, this one will take some getting used to!

Don't feel bad... I bought my RGT3120 earlier this summer and mine was a 2002 also... but I still had to pay the full $1300. In the end, like you, I am happier with the older trem design because it is proven, stable, and reliable.

As far as I can tell the only diference betwen the '02 and the '03 is the trem.

BTW... congrats on the purchase! It is a great guitar!

Well, I ended up getting rid of it anyway...
*sigh*
I ended up getting a RG1570RB and having Eddie make me a smoked mirror pickguard. After jamming with the RGT with the band, I was really not that impressed. I just assume to spend half as much on the basswood with a thinner neck. I can also do some more mods to the bolt on.... blah, blah, blah...
