My New YJM in SONIC BLUE !!!!!

.....All this talk about Yngwie and G-3 and 21 frets.....

It gave me GAS- I found a 93' YJM in Sonic Blue with rosewood scalloped board. Mint, so I bought it!!!!

This one is USA, yellowed maple neck with small headstock, Dimarzio pickups, brass nut and 5 way switch. It really looks like a 62' re-issue until you feel the neck.

It's so clean- I drove to NYC to pick it up- the pics looked TOO clean but were dead-on accurate.

I can't post pics, but if someone wants to see it or post them, give me a shout!

I have absolutely NO PROBLEM with the scalloped neck- it's real easy to play.

Jammy,
Once again I thank you for your help! Man, I'm beginning to REALLY owe you!

Excellent observation Two Hands.
Volume knob is newer as is the selector tip.

Anyone have info on these? I called Fender with the serial # and it's a USA 1993. Haven't seen many like this. I know it's not rare, but not a run-of-the-mill- either.

Thanks again Jammy- when will we see pics your new one from Jeremy?

I really like the combination of Sonic blue, rose wood fret board and 3-ply pickguard. I've tried the Yngwie-caster on a few ocasions but never spent enough time with it to figure out if a scalloped fret board is for me. Guess you could get some nice clean/semi-dirty tones out of it.

Nice acquisition dude.

The guitar is not that rare, Sonic Blue is one of 3 standard colours that Fender produced with the other 2 being Vintage White and Candy Apple Red (which is the rarer colour of the 3).

But the rosewood necks you see less of than the maple, prob because most people want maple like the Yng.

That model was produced from c. 1987 to 1997/8 when it was replaced by the new model with large headstock and 3x DiMarzio's along with the aged fingerboard and vintage trem.

UPDATE:

Well, I've had it a week. The neck is wider and deeper than my Jems and my Universe. About the same as the Kramer.

The Dimarzio pickups KICK ASS!!!!!!!!!!

I guess these are kinda what I've been looking for all along- good bite, but clean up just enough when you roll back the V. The neck PU is close to heaven.

The body is suprisingly resonant- not like most strats, unplugged it is LOUD and vibrates noticably. My Jems do not. The LGM Universe does vibrate, but that's a custom guitar.

The scalloped board is very comfortable. You must play lightly, but you can really fly over this board.

You gotta try a scalloped neck at least once! I wish the jems came with the whole neck scalloped - not just the top 4 frets.

Anyway, great guitar. I'm definitely glad I got it. Now, if I could only play it like Yngwie!!!!!!!!!

The YJM bodies are generally 1,2 or 3 bits of wood, unlike a US Std which is anywhere from 3 to 5, some have even been 7 bits, but I think these are ones that should have been sent to Mexico for final assembly.

No doubt the YJM Strat IS one of Fender's most underrated gems.
