My Problem with AANJ.....

Anybody else notice how AANJ routed bodies start to curve on the upper wing for the AANJ before it's under the neck. I just prefer how the old heel joint elegantly swoops into the neck, it's just more pleasing to the eye. Probably something only a guitarist would notice I guess, but am I alone in thinking they should've kept the design that way when they started making AANJ? It's not a strenghth issue, they could've easily made it that way and it still be AANJ. Rant over

Lol. I thought I was the only one bothered by this.

But yeah, it annoys me. The little bump really breaks up the flow of the upper horn into the neck.

I feel the same way sometimes when playing my PWH, it looks cool but when im playing my 7620s, it's feels better having the AANJ. I kinda like both.

AH! so I'm not alone. I prefer the feel of AANJ, but the look of the old joint.

You guys are kooky!

Follow Mr. Zappa's sage advice: "Shut up 'n play yer guitar".

Yup - I don't hear anybody complaining about the fact that the AANJ is sooo much easier to play in the upper registers

Instead of worrying about the aesthetic value of the BACK of the guitar, do what Mr. Zappa says!!!

Sorry...couldn't help it

I prefer the old neckplates.

I have big hands, so reaching is no problem for me.

I really love the way the body looks with the old neck joint, its really beautifully shaped.

Re: My Problem with AANJ.....

Hunh. I never noticed that before. But now that you mention it, the old neck joint does swoop down nicely to join the neck, compared to the AANJ, which makes a bad turn at the last second to join the neck at a harsh angle.

Pointing this out to me does not make me happier. But facts are not about being happy. Interesting.

Re: My Problem with AANJ.....

It's time we talk "PLAYABILITY" fellas

That being said....my BFP is my most played Jem.
I just love that maple neck!!

But the AANJ IS easier to access the higher frets.

Contradiction anyone

Re: My Problem with AANJ.....

JJEMMER777, I think the contention is that the AANJ could have been designed very slightly differently to preserve the old joint's swooping merge with the top edge of the neck without sacrificing any playability.

The complaint is purely with the aesthetics.

Of course, had it been designed that way, doubtless there would be those who would complain "it should be more rounded! For purely aesthetic reasons!"

There's no arguing with taste.

Yeah, I hear ya...but it's the "BACK" of the guitar lads

Yep, I love the looks of the old plates too, but I still can't argue with the change.

Why do you buy a guitar in the first place....to look at, or play?

Luckily, with the Jem you get both regardless of the joint style!!

YOU DON"T GET IT! We're talking about the front of the guitar, and of course it's just an aesthetic issue, but since I make guitar's, look's matter just as much as sound. I don't know about everyone else, but I don't just play a guitar, I spend time looking at them and I see them as works of art. I'd rather have it look the way I like, which is why I wouldn't touch a Gibson with a 10 ft pole. Sure they sound great, but so do Ibanez's and I don't think they're all ugly like any Gibson(keep in mind that's my opinion, so I don't want any Gibson's players getting offended and bitching at me!).
