My RG7620 restore thread

So yeah,

This is my RG7620. Awesome, eh?

I need to sand the rest of the black off it, and then I'll do something else to it. I have no idea what yet, but I'm guessing "whatever's cheapest" will be the front runner. And by "I'm guessing" I mean "I'm certain".

It has a Blaze neck pickup, and and Evo7 bridge pickup. It's difficult for me to properly describe how unimpressed I am with the Evo7. Miserable piece of crap, or just piece of crap? I don't know, they're both subjective I suppose The Blaze I love though, so that's good at least. I think at one point I had a "For trade - Evo7 for anything else not pure crap" thread in the classifieds, I may have to rethink bumping that one up a bit.

So, I'm getting another fishtank tomorrow so likely won't have time this weekend to continue stripping this thing, but I wanted to open the thread to guilt myself into moving forward, however slowly and painfully. The neck seems great, no real fretwear or anything, so this should be pretty nice once its done. The chip collection that was the paint job needed to go, no question about that.

Wow. The snipped off strings still held in place are just the perfect pathetic touch.

I can't wait to see where you take this!

Re: My RG7620 restore thread

A tung oil natural finish would look good. Looking foward to the results.

Thinking of a similar project myself.

Re: My RG7620 restore thread

very nice project.
i'm running a EVO7 in a brazilian mahogany body and i just love it.
For a basswood body, i'd suggest you a BLAZE CUSTOM.

Looks like my UV97 I've been "restoring" for a few years now... I'm pathetic.
