A couple of rare craigslist gems I have come across. This is my primary set-up...
My "Budget" rig:
A completely stock '86 yamaha rgx 1212s (taiwan) neck-thru... which used to be painted cherry red. But one of the previous owners decided it would look better with the paint stripped off the front and back of the guitar. I have a seymour duncan I was going to put into the bridge; but I actually love the bridge pick-up in it, and haven't had a JB to throw in it. Paid $200
This amp I took a serious gamble on; I picked it up...
Crate USA Stealth 50-watt all-tube (3 12ax7 / 4 6v6's) by Lee Jackson.
I ended up buying an a/b footswitch, new Groove Tubes, and I swapped a 12" Celestion V-30 for the stock speaker.
At this point, I figured if it sounded like crap -- I was just out about $300 for a gamble...
Lo and behold... the "modded jcm 800" tone which this amp was built for finally started shining through.
The only issue now is a volume fluctuation. My friend who is a certified peavey repair tech said it's probably the sodder joints... It's very annoying.
I still need to replace the pre-amp tubes... but when this bad boy is firing on all cylinders...
the freaking tone from a single 1x12 celestion from this thing is TO DIE FOR. Who doesn't want a mobile modded jcm 800?
Highest words of commendation for both the guitar and the amp.
Next I guess I am going to replace the pre-amp tubes... have the volume issue fixed... oh and the reverb tanks need to be replaced. I'll have about $400 on it when I'm done; and that is WAY Steep... but in this case, I think it's a keeper and will become my main amp.
