NDG!! - '77 Ibanez 2471NT Archtop Jazz Magic

Very close to a Holy Grail for me, an actual Tamura-san crafted archtop masterpiece from the late 70's

What I've got here is a fairly rare and fairly odd old Ibanez from the late 70's, the 2471NT. Full sized & fully hollow, with a solid spruce top. Probably not carved, more than likely steamed and pressed, but I'll need to have my luthier determine one way or the other. Not a laminated top though, this is a solid spruce top. Very similar to a Gibson L-5, though arguably nicer playing and sounding - not that I would argue, but some might

The guitar was modified back in about '83 with the addition of a Gibson humbucker, to make it more like an L-5 Wes. Unfortunate as that was to the value of the instrument, it lowered it to the point where i could afford it, so all in all not a bad thing. And it sounds really, really nice. Like a good L-5 should.

So, the lovely headstock first:

The guitar's face:

The guitar's gorgeous birdseye back:

The ebony block inlaid tailpiece (note those are NOT scratches in the top, but reflections)

Here's a head scratcher; the 2471 didn't ship with any pickups, it was a totally acoustic archtop. But, as you can see here, this particular guitar originally had a factory installed floating pickup, which is now gone...

Jim, that's amazing, a really smooth guitar

I love it when folks find these old Ibanez bauties from yesteryear, just brilliant

I love guitars with just 1 neck pickup. My dad has a Ibanez like this one, 'cept its called a "Mann". Nice score, though.

Here's my two big girls, the '78 FA-100 on the left, and the '77 2471-NT on the right. Can't wait to get a proper pickguard on the 2471, and lose the LP pickguard on it now

Thanks guys, she's everything I hoped she'd be. Once I get a proper pickguard and a Bartolini for her, she'll be set for life
