Neck profiles question from an Ibanez newbie

Hi All,

I had a RG550 years ago. I then got a MM EVH and ever since then I've gotten guitars that have a beefier neck. I had a few Wolfgangs and am getting rid of my last one because I hate the lack of a forearm contour and a rib contour. I love the shape of the IBZ bodies especially the saber style.

I've been doing some lurking here and am learning a bit about the different necks available. It looks like the beefier necks are the Wizard ll and the Ultra. Did I leave any out? What models should I look for that has a beefier neck than the Wizard I had on my old 550? Do any of the necks have a width of 1 5/8 or all they all 1 11/16?

thanks,

Al

The Viper neck profile and most JEM and JS necks are beefier as well.

Here's a list of the different types of necks:

I downloaded that page the other day and convereted them into non-metric values that I'm more used to. I was suprised about the Jem, I assumed they were wide and thin. Since the RG models seem like the most common, which ones have the larger necks?

thanks,

Al

Larger numbers are larger regardless the numerical system you use, so even without any further calculations you can get the relative differences from the table Necks with a thick profile and big radius are beefier than thinner necks with a small radius

The necks you named earlier are beefier, as are the necks I mentioned. Those cover most of the more common necks on Ibanezes. There are a few RG prestiges that have the ultra profile, but most have the wizard.

Every 5xx, series has (had) the wizard or superwizard superthin neck. The best thing you can do is try out a lot and see which profile you like best. My favorite profile is the Viper, but there are only a few Ibanezes that had that specific profile. It's thick, but has a very small radius
