Neck refuses to come off

During the course of a restring I commenced the routine removal of my guitar's AANJ-type neck. As I proceeded to systematically remove the screws, I approached my guitar neck with a traditional motion, expecting, as had been established in previous experiences, that the neck would come off by a mere pull from the body.

I felt a subconscious unease when this RG2550Z adamantly refused to let go of its neck! Fearing that I would generate a screw-up of a royal scale, I decided to retreat to the helpful confides of the Jemsite forums rather than revert to the use of potentially damaging primal and unregulated force.

How shall I approach this matter?

Re: Neck refuses to come off

Just wiggle it a bit. A good neck fits the pocket like a glove, so it should be a bit tight.
Don't pry it off. Just gently wiggle as you pull up on it.

Re: Neck refuses to come off

Ah, sir, thank you for your most fast reply.

I have attempted wiggling it, and as we speak I am wiggling with a rapid passion! It does not respond at all to my provocation...

See if your girlfriend can get it to respond to wiggling.

Re: Neck refuses to come off

While I appreciate this reply, I am unfortunately without access to the suggested solution. I am 15 and without a girlfriend.

Re: Neck refuses to come off

Oh my. I am restringing this guitar with 12-60 gauge strings... without the neck bolts. The guitar is completely solid! I must also mention that one of the cups for the screws is stuck... but I have experienced it being stuck before and I do not pay much attention to it.

Perhaps this miraculous matter shall serve as a prophecy. At least I have an RG[T]2550Z.

Any more suggestions on how to solve this dilemma?

Re: Neck refuses to come off

HOLY TITS I WAS HOLDING MY GUITAR AND SCREWING ON THE TREMOLO BACKPLATE WHEN THE NECK SUDDENLY CAME OFF! No damage at all. Just came off with a mildly loud noise.

So let it be known in Ibanezean history, that should a stubborn neck refuse to dissociate itself from a body, that a set of 12s tuned in E standard shall unleash the most detaching forces.

Question Re: Neck refuses to come off

Ummm.

While interesting to note that stringing a guitar, then bringing it up to full tune, while no neck screws are in place will (as suspected) remove the neck from the body....

I guess the bigger question is, why are you "routinely" removing your neck in the first place?

Not a huge issue, just a ponderance.

Re: Neck refuses to come off

Ah, the "routine" is not a one that occurs on every restring. I merely had to add/remove shims due to the drastic change from 9-46 to 12-60.

The guitar is in tune now, playing quite well.

Quite so. Adjusting the neck angle because you increased the string gauge? Wrong.

This is by far the most funniest response to a silly answer ever.

Well played sir.
