Neck swap issues on SA series
I've been experimenting with a newer made in China Ibanez sa130mfm (maple neck, 22 frets) and have decided I don't like the neck....actually, I like the *idea* of the neck (specs), but frets are not particularly good (it needs some work/leveling) etc. I also own an older circa 2003 Made in Korea s370 (also 22 fret, with rosewood board) with floyd, locking nut etc. but with a neck that was done better. Both have aanj neck joints. I decided to put the s370 neck on the sa130mfm and noticed a few things: 1. the s370 neck was heavier 2. it definitely sounded better by a long shot. Unfortunately, the heel was a tad thicker (maybe a 1/4") which meant I had to raise the saddles quite a bit higher and it didn't align properly...gaps in the neck pocket on one side, strings didn't align straight etc.
So, I'm looking to find a good quality s or sa series neck that will fit my sa130mfm body. What I need to know is: 1. what necks will fit properly, and 2. is there a particular era (of the ones that will fit properly) that are more desirable? Do the older ones not fit the newer bodies, is there a difference in country of manufacture (China vs. Korea), do the Floyd equipped models not mate with the non-Floyd models? I hope to purchase a good quality neck that will fit my sa130mfm. If I'm stuck with only Chinese made necks due to the fit, and it turns out that the Chinese made necks generally aren't very good, I guess I'm screwed. Any advice is appreciated.
