Re: need help to drop a whole step

You can adjust the screws that hold the plate where the springs are attached (the screws that go in the body).
For better info and pics check Rich's site: http://www.ibanezrules.com/tech/setup/angle.htm#EP

Re: need help to drop a whole step

i did that.but the screws only go out so far before you get to the end of the threads.so i took out a spring and it didn't have enough pull on the springs going the other way.i know mick drops a whole step with a floyd to get the meaty growl,i just wanna figure it out.

Re: need help to drop a whole step

If you're using .009 strings and tuning down 1 step, Try 2 springs in an arrow pattern.

Re: need help to drop a whole step

I imagine that you use 3 springs, isn't it so?
I use .010 gauge strings, 3 springs in an arrow pattern, tune down 1 step and don't have any problem. Maybe you should try the different gauge.

Re: need help to drop a whole step

I have plenty of guitars around here that are dropped, and I always use three springs parallel, sometimes 4 springs, with 11's.

I have one guitar in drop b with 12's and 5 springs, just to give you another idea.

Re: need help to drop a whole step

I think you'll have better luck with 11's.

Re: need help to drop a whole step

jaxadam's right. You'll probably have better luck with 11's. I tried 10's because I was really used to 9's and didn't want to go far. If I did now, I would go for 11's.

Make sure you adjust the bridge properly (you will see it rising!!).

Good luck!

Re: need help to drop a whole step

Re: need help to drop a whole step

I would for with 11's because I got used to 10's (I play my acoustic with 12's) and don't care anymore about the bigger gauge (it doesn't hurt!). 10's worked great, but IMO the bigger the gauge, the bigger the sound!
I wouldn't use more the springs (I think 3 are ok), but a friend who uses a C tuning with 11's, uses 4 springs (parallel attached). You could experiment with the tension. It's up to you.
