need help ! ibanez prestige bargain. is it worth the money?

Hello fellow jemmers

So i looked on the internet and came acros an interesting looking guitar for sale
It turned out to be an s1220 prestige made in japan.
I talked to the guy who has it for sale and he wanted to sell the guitar at a price of 375euros.
But theres a tiny problem with it (or big) i dont know for sure. It has a little crack in the neck . nothing big at all but when a lot of pressure is applied on the neck. he told me that decreases the value of the guitar (obviously)
But what i want to know is How much the price goes down?
Or is it even worth it?? . i hope you guys know something or can give me some information.
Thanks!

Do you have pictures of the crack? If it's not a structural issue, it's probably a good deal.

I do have some pics but i dont know how to post them on here (im new just made this account like 10minutes ago haha)

Anyway. It doesnt look like anything big. And the crack only shows up with big amounts of pressure. Maybe this could be fixed easily.
But what should i bid maybe from 375 to 300 or 250?
Also fast replys! Thanks

Can you post a link to the pictures. It could be a great deal, but without know where the crack is- it's impossible to help.

If you cannot post the link, you can send it to me in a personal message....

I got your email.

Fortunately, these cracks are only slightly worse than what is typically found on older Ibanez guitars with a scarf joint. You can repair it yourself easily and cheaply while sitting at home. You'll only need some thin cyanoacrelate (sp?) A.K.A. superglue and a couple grades of sandpaper.

Here are the pics for everyone to see:

Doesnt sound to hard to repair that.
And why are those common on older guitars btw?
So is it actually worth buying this guitar.
And thanks so much guys for all your help!

I don't know what would be a normal price for your market, but at around the $300 exchange for 275 euro's I would buy it. Of course I know I can do the needed neck repair. You still have to figure that into your decision and how much your time is worth.

The reasons for nut joint cracks vary a bit. My guess is that the one your looking at fell onto the back tip of the headstock at some point. If you buy it, come back here so we can help you fix it up right....

Because the necks were so thin, with the 2 screws going through the wood like that, over a period of time, with neck warping and all due to weather changes, cracks do appear. I've never personally seen a neck crack on any of my older Ibbies (I had a 1993 RG550, and I currently have a 1990 RG560, neither of which had any neck issues.)

Re: need help ! ibanez prestige bargain. is it worth the money?

I had one about 5 times as big on an RG550 I bought. Took it to my guitar guy and you can't tell the difference. Either way the guitar played fine so I don't think you have too much to worry about.

Re: need help ! ibanez prestige bargain. is it worth the money?

The S1220 are great guitars!!!! That crack does not scare me... If everything else is OK with the guitar (straight neck, good frets etc), I would go for it.

One tip I would give for the repair, is to remove the strings and the nut from the guitar before applying the glue.
remove also the little washers that are bellow the two screws at the back of the neck.
You do not want to glue all this stuff toghether. Wait for the glue to cure before sanding with 500 or higher (thiner) sandpaper to smothen out the glue residue.

Re: need help ! ibanez prestige bargain. is it worth the money?

Hmmm so if hole-crack size is not an issue how would you classify :
PVA (white wood glue) vs CA (super glue) vs Polyurethane vs Epoxy?

PVA has worked wonders for me, for any wood project I did, while Epoxy has performed fantastic for anything but wood. I started losing faith in CA as the materials it can bond become fewer and fewer. Polyurethane has also worked fantastic for concrete, walls, ... (and of course ... fenders)

Re: need help ! ibanez prestige bargain. is it worth the money?

I think the crack size is very important. It determines which product I'll use.

When it comes to guitars my adhesive options are- Hide glue, CA, or titebond wood glue. Each has it's strong points and weak points. For very thin cracks such as these- CA is the best choice because it can wick into the full depth and length of the crack before curing.

I don't use "over-the-counter" super glue. I only use stewmac's #10 (thin) CA. I don't know if standard superglue and stewmac's CA are the same or not, but I've gotten much better bonds with the CA.
