need help with looking for a GOOD quality resonator

ok so.. ive never owned a resonator or even a half decent acoustic, ive always stuck with lekky guitars, and i know my stuf when it comes to lekky, ive owned plenty! but when it comes to acoustics i have much less experience, and even less with resonators so im not sure what im looking for at all, of course i know a few brand names to avoid, but spec wise i havnt a clue what im looking for, not my field!
so anyway, ive been making do for a while now playing slide on a TERRIBLE westfield acoustic that i raised the action on.. and its about time i bought something decent
i want something good enough quality to satisfy the best of blues players, yet not something terribly oerpriced.. i'll most likely be lookingfor second hand gear anyway
any brands or models anybody can suggest?
cheers

Re: need help with looking for a GOOD quality resonator

You have two choices: either an american-made Dobro or National for big bucks, or a pacific-rim manufacturer like Johnson, Amistar or Regal. Metal-bodied are the coolest, although you can get wood bodied sliders too. German Silver is the top material for metal-bodied reso's but the nickel sounds good for much less coin.

Two types: single-cone and tri-cone. Tri-cones sound much better as they have more vibrating area than single cones but they cost a bit more.

This also might help with the history and types:

Good luck.
