Need opinions, please...

Hey folks,
As most of you know, I mainly play RG-550s, 570s, 770s, and my loney Iceman. But lately, I've been pondering an RG hardtail--mainly an RG321. As as stock pickups will be tossed out for DiMarzios, I really just need opinions on the neck. Is it similar to the old Wizards, or more of a baseball bat?

Thanks!

It's a wizard II neck. Which I personally like. But for someone that's really use to the original wizard it'll feel considerably thicker. Just check the specs online.

The Wizard II neck is *very* similar to the original JEM profile. If you like old-school JEMs, you'll dig on the 321 neck.

Providing you get one with decent fretwork.

Thanks, but I already knew the specs--I always do my homework before asking. I'm just looking for opinions from folks who actually have one or have played one to get opinions about the playability compared to the old Wizard necks.

The neck on my kid's RG350DX is almost identical in shape and size to the neck on my FP. So yeah, think "old-school JEM".

Personally, I like the WizII. I think the thicker neck is actually a little more comfortable than the original Wizard. Playability wise, I think I suck about the same on my JEMs as I do on the RG350.

If you want a hardtail, switch to the RGA stuff. Been testing them for a few months (low levels and the prestige ones) and the RGA's are hella in. Mahogany bodies ooze tone.

I've considered RGAs, but I can get a 321 for less than two hundred beans--this is what ia driving the interest.

Go for it Alaska. I have an RG321 and I like the neck alot and I have small hands! Change ur pickups and u got urself a pretty sweet sounding and playing axe. Just be aware that the hardware tarnishes pretty fast on the ones with the original bridge style.

The only thing I didn't like about the 321 was it was a bit sticky. A nice sanding and a bit of oil and it's a fine neck ready to go. Nice guitars, well undervalued (conveniently). I don't play mine at all anymore because all my hardtail playing is on an Explorer now, but they play great once you sand the sticky off the neck.

I'd go so far as to say sanding the neck to bare is a bigger upgrade than changing the pickups out on these.

It's definitely a good value for the money. If you can live with the Wizard II neck then go for it. The frets are huge, thats about the only turn off that I had. I'd wanna bevel em down to prestige level.

the neck on my rg350 is totaly different to my 777vdy neck.the rg350 neck is a bit fatter and feels more rounded, bit baseball bat if ya like.whereas the 777vdy neck is thinner and plays way faster.i think the 777vdy and 777vsk had different neck profiles to the other 777jem series.

Yeah, those two had Wizard profile necks, like the PBK

Re: Need opinions, please...

A good RG321 with upgraded pickups and a sanded and oiled neck would kick all sorts of a$$. I say go for it!

Just wondering, which pickups are you thinking of putting in it?

Rock on!

The VDY neck is a Wizard profile neck. I was specifically talking about the JEM profile neck, which is very similar to a Wizard II profile.
