Need validation on RG550 authenticity

Pretty sure it's an RG550. I think some of the things in question were modifications by the original owner.

First, the serial number is on a silver sticker and not printed on the wood. It looks original though. Serial number is F75XXXX, which, if I understand correctly, is a 1997 model. The neck is clear coated, but it wraps around the serial number. In other words, it looks like they masked off the serial number.

Also, what type of truss rod adjustment did it use? This has more of a nut then the usual allan wrench style.

Yeah, some of the early 550's did come with a sticker, I'm pretty sure of it. And the adjustment for the truss rod is a socket type, I believe. Someone else will probably confirm, but I think I'm correct. The serial does indicate an '87 model.

Oh, 87 and not a 97....Okay. I was thinking that as I had thought by 97 they were stamped and the first two numbers were the year instead of just the first one. That would also make more sense given the amount of fret wear.

Yeah, pickguard so I know it would be a 550. Maple board with black dots. Think I remember my RFR having black dots as well.

Re: Need validation on RG550 authenticity

It is exactly like that. Same color and everything. I just don't have an Ibanez logo on it anymore as they refinished the neck with clear coat on the whole thing.

it's even more worn out now since I've been playing it like a fish to water.
