Need your take on this Ibanez (RG720)

Hi guys,

Really appreciate any feedback for this particular model. How good is the make in comparison with other ibanez including the prestige line? how much would it cost in the used market? Would you trade a strat for this one if you had a chance?

Here are the specs:

1-Piece Maple neck with Maple fingerboard (Wizard 2)
Mahogany body with flamed maple top
Lo Pro bridge
Gotoh tuners
Offset abalone dot inlays
Pick ups: DiMarzio Evo 2 (bridge) and DiMarzio Evo (neck) - The pups have been swapped

Any feedback would be great guys. Thanks a bunch

Re: Need your take on this Ibanez (RG720)

Hey Slash..... I don't think Ibanez ever made an RG720. There were (and are) 120's, 220's, 320's, 420's, 520's, and 620's before the prestige lines came out. What your describing sounds a lot like an RG3120VV.... Here's a pic:

For what it's worth, ALL 700 series guitars had a bound neck with sharkstooth inlays

Be Careful... I may have to take you up on that offer....lol

Thanks for posting the pics Tubarao..... saved me a bunch of time.

Slash.... It's a VERY nice looking guitar. I have NEVER seen one like it before. It looks like all original Ibanez parts, but I suspect that it is a customized RG520 (a great guitar in its own right).

After saying that... There IS a strong possibility of it being a limited production model that was released for the Asian market only. There is also the possibility of it being a special order for some particular music store. Ibanez would do these type of customs if the store ordered a minimum amount (I think it was 12).

About trading a Strat for it...... I would guess a value on this guitar of around $700USD (2119 MYR) If your Strat is worth around there then you have a good trade. Based on the description and the pics, that Ibanez is a VERY nice guitar that I personally would be proud to own.

Re: Need your take on this Ibanez (RG720)

ok.. the next logical question would be.. How can we know fer sure that this is not a bunch of ibanez parts assembled together?

No way you can tell. But even if it's assembled with ibanez parts, still a great guitar none the less.
But this doesn't look like an assembled one. Consider the fact that everything is matching. I am going to go with domestic model or limited edition stuff which Japan is so famous for.

Wow.. thanks for the info guys, really appreciate the help. $700USD huh, then the seller is selling it pretty steep. I'll try to negotiate with him.

And to Mr. RGTFanatic, gimme drop me nudge if you're commin down.

I agree, there are a a lot of spot production models released only in certain markets that aren't well documented.
