New custom 8-string idea..

Let me know what you think about my idiotic "sunday-morning" custom idea... I borrowed elements from all kinds of manufacturers (melted top, lions claw, 4+4 headstock...) and the 8th fret marker was actually my own idea.
Well, a picture says more than a thousand words so check below..

Greetz,

Jay

Ps. Hey Ibanez, maybe you could make limited run of this one for me? [/url]

Well if it was me who designed it...I would definitely get rid of that inlay :)
Also, the single coil would go. Wouldn't have such indiscrete knobs either, if any. I don't like knobs. I'd probably go for just an on/off toggle switch and no volume/tone knobs at all. Nor a position switch because it would only have a bridge pickup.
Otherwise, the looks are ok!

But this is all uninteresting stuff really, do the guitar you want to do and don't care about what other people want it to look. Look above what happens then :)

See, i hate stuff like this... I USED to be perfectly happy with a 6-string. Then i got the 7-string bug, and now i'm sorta lusting after a custom 9; fixed bridge, high a and low f#. god, i need help.

That's looks Awesome. I would buy one if it wasn't all that expensive. But it probably would be.

The main thing i find is that with such a wide, wide fretboard, the upper and lower horns of the RG body style start looking really thin and insignificant. The proportions just arent right. A 5+3 or 6+2 tuner layout might be nice.

Hey, nice work on that pic.

I must say, I LIKE it, but there are a few things I'd want to change...

I think the inlay is cool, but I personally prefer a few very subtle dots along the fretboard, but that VIII inlay is very very cool.

The RG body style is kind of bothering me lately, so something more along the lines of a Carvin DC747 body style would intruigue me more. I'm an RG7 player currently, so I've been getting kind of fed up with the body style.

For me, I'd have two humbuckers or an HSH format, with a switch or an integrated part of pickup selector wiring to get the humbuckers in parallel (parallel wired humbucker is my signature sound, smooth, clear, and clean)

As far as scale length is concerned, I'd want to have it very slightly longer than 25.5", just to add some clarity and punch to the low end. Maybe 25.75" or 26" would be interesting...

Anyways, those are my two lousy Canadian cents lol

Something in the Toronto water, perhaps?

I think the London water is really messed up, cuz my signature sound is a Squire Strat.

It's cool Although I would go for a H/s/H combo and also replace the inlay with an infinity symbol (which looks like an across a couple of fret near the 12th one

It looks damn cool though. want one lol!

Thanks for your kind words all..
Although my hands are too small for an 8-string (a 7 string is no problem though) it would be a cool walldecoration

Excelent effort.

It is very reminiscent of Conklin guitars. I bet they have something similar in their Bizare Galery.

Also the roman numerals were used by the great late John Entwistle on his bass guitar.

Great guitar though.

7 1/2? what, like a banjo?? I want pics when it's done.

-Drew

by the way... The bigger problem with the RG body on an 8+ string guitar is the balance; the body's just not heavy enough to offset all that wood in the neck. When you get that many strings going, something like a cross between a JS/R series and one of those weird Ibanez Ergodyne basses might work- somelthing curvy and slinky that'd offset as much of the weight as possible towards the back of the guitar, to help compensate for the downward pull.

Eddie, if i ever get the cash together, can you do custom body shapes? If i sent you a coupl sketches, would you be able to shape something approximate by hand? I'd imagine this would cost me one liver, a kidney, and three toes, but no harm in asking...
