New Custom..... finally!

OK so it finally happened.

My 4 and a bit year project that has traveled the globe to finally be completed.

Here are the pics:

http://photobucket.com/ZRGCustom?albumview=slideshow

Details:

Body and Neck by Christopher Woods.
Paint work by ET Guitars
Electronics and Set-up By Mick Johnson and Al from Apex Music.

Story...

After trolling tonnes of websites searching for the dream guitar, i stumbled on a Japanese site that featured the MRG-4 J-Custom and instantly fell in love with it. Had everything i wanted: Maple top with Burst finish, Pearl Pick-guard, Ebony Board with offset dots only at 12, Matching Headstock Gold Hardware...Magnificent.

but they all sold out...

So i figured I'd get one made with the connections available here...

Hardware came from some poor guy whose girlfriend trashed his Jem 7vwh. Sustainer and D-Sonic i scored dirt cheap from *bay. Won't bore you with the CWG ordeal but got a good deal there also.

All in all it took 4 and a bit years.

.....and its awesome!

Have had to tweak it a little and may still need to do so in future but at the moment i absolutely love it.

Sure the Maple did not turn out as nice as the original, the paintwork is not perfect (but pretty good) - but the neck is to die for, so hats off to CWG for that - overall the sound is phenomenal and then you plug it in and the D-Sonic is my new absolute favorite pick-up. The Sustainer is quite good on its own also, and still tinkering with it and it is a cool toy.

Financially was it worth it? Well a New MRG-10 (my next alternative) was around $4K. New RG2560E which is another beauty...around $2K This cost me all up around $1200 (did i mention 4 and a half years?)

either way i am very happy

That looks beatiful. Really really nice job on the body. I'd say 1200 is really good deal on that. Looks to be well worth the wait. Congrats!

The Body is Great - Chris did a great job with the front and back routes - i thought that was very clever.

And the maple top is pretty nice.

When I read 4 1/2 year wait, I presumed it was a Sims project and you had to traverse the pond and kick down his door for your guitar.

Funny you should say that - i was in LA for work and swung by to pick it up. He was actually very good about it.

He was very apologetic and admitted things just got on top of him. So i took it unpainted - and got it to Ernie who lived about 90 minutes away. But then moved to the UK and then had to wait again...

Re: New Custom..... finally!

That's a sweet guitar man. I have a hard time waiting for a damn red light to change; can't imagine waiting 4 1/2 years for a custom guitar

You have the patience of a saint bro!
