Carvin pickups are a little smaller than comparable Gibson/DiMarzio/Duncan humbuckers. While the Carvin 6 string pickups sound great to me (and tons of others) the reaction to their 7 string pickups is less than universal praise. It's pretty easy to swap pickups into and out of the 6 string guitars, but the base plates of 7 string pickups need to be trimmed a bit to get them to fit in the 7x7 series guitars. Not a big deal for a capable tech by any stretch of the imagination, but not a simple 5 minute job either for a newb.
I bought a Blaze/Blaze Custom combo for my mahogany 727 when I got it in May '06, but I still haven't bothered to install them. The neck pickup is great for jazz and fusion, and since that's where I live no problem.

Thanks guys for clearing that up. I heard there were issues with size but didn't know the details before now.

I'm glad someone else actually likes them. I was expecting them to be crap, but was pleasantly surprised. After lowering them a bit, they got a lot less treble-y, and I'm quite happy with them.

I don't really care personally, it's your guitar, but you did keep it even though it isn't what you asked for. I hope you are happy with it.
Not my place to say, maybe, but you kinda sound like you're talking down to the dude because he didn't, idunno, sock it to The Man about a guitar he could have returned.

What gives?
