New Gotoh H.A.P. tuners on Prestige? help please.

my new SZ4020ntf has these H.A.P. (height adjustable post) that came with a special allen wrench for adjustments. i read the included pamphlet to no avail and i read it a dozen times.
i tried the wrench in a couple of the tuners (hole in the base of tuners body for wrench) and when loosened the tuner went "limp", in other words, the string became completely loose instantly.
anyone that can shed some light on this new technology would be greatly appreciated. i feel like a dumbass as i am usually quick with gadgets and devices. thanks in advance.

I might be completly wrong but it sounds like a locking tuner? Your description of the string going limp makes me think that.

I have them on my Caparison, and I haven't really messed with them much, but I think that when I first got it, I played with it to check it out, and it just raised or lowered the post. I was like "oh, okay, that makes sense" and I didn't mess with it again. But I can't remember if I did that with the strings on or off...

I'll go check it out again and see what happens.

i didn't see where it held the string like a locking tuner - doesn't mean that it doesn't but i just didn't see it.
if it raises the height AND locks in the string that would make sense. i plan to restring the guitar in the next couple days and will get a good chance to mess with them. i was a little shy to get too involved without knowing what i was doing once the string went loose on me.

i changed strings over the weekend and still didn't understand what the purpose of these special features on these tuners is? the closest thing i can guess is it loosens the strings very quickly but that can't be the big "to do" about these tuners, especially since it talks of being height adjustable? hmmmm?

The Magnum Locking system is somewhat like Sperzels.

Yeah, the angle of the headstock/tuning posts can make a huge difference on playability. Dan Erlewine talks about it in one of his books. That's what those tuners are for.
